**IF ANY ARTISTS WANT YOUR ALBUM REVIEWED, HIT ME ON THE PM AND WE CAN WORK SOMETHIN OUT**
well let me start off by telling u where I'm coming from with this review, so you can understand what type of music i like, as everybody likes a different sound. I've been listenin to bay music for quite a long time, my favorite period, as I'm sure everybody else's was, is from about 92 to about 98. I feel that this was the time for that mobb shit, and this is where the bay got its structure from...people and groups like E-40 and the rest of the Click, 11/5, RBL Posse, JT The Bigga Figga and the rest of the GLP, and so on...
Today, I will be reviewing Sleepdank - 15Bluntz2Light with production by Johnny Z, OPM, and "many a plenty of others". I had never heard a sleepdank song before I reviewed this album, therefore it is in no way biased. Although, it is a shame that I had never heard Sleepdank before...yes, this album is that good. Sleepdank is from Crestside, where many legendary rappers such as Mac Dre, Mac Mall, Celly Cel, E-40, and so on represent. Sleepdank comes with an album that has production and lyrical content that is on the level of these artists, believe it or not. If u guys haven't picked up this album yet, grab it now cuz it's gonna be somethin big. anyway enough of this, I shall begin the review...
01-intro---Sleepdank besically givin some shout outs to people all over the USA. this beat is damn good, it seems like a waste of an excellent beat, Sleepdank could have spit some heat over this one. anyway just an intro, i will not give this a rating, but if the producer is reading this, im giving your beat a 5/5.
02-gunnz outt---Sleepdank solo track spitting keepin on wit yo hustle. I'm liking the beat, its got a solid, good bass line. his first verse is off the hook, second verse is...well each one of his verses is off the hook. this song is pure gangsta shit to the fullest. I'm really feelin this song, somethin to ride to, a banger if u got subs. I'm giving it a 4/5
03-Aint Gon Stop Featuring Black C---Sleepdank and Black C collaborate on this song for some hard yrical content; mostly about reppin the bay and holdin the block down with that gangsta shit. Black C comes hard as ever (Where the fuck is the solo already? lol) I like this beat a lot,so far so good, the production has been solid. i will give this song a 4/5 as well
04-Soon As I---Sleepdank spits solo on this track. as soon as i heard this song, i noticed it was a little repetitive with the chorus. It's a good song, dont get me wrong, but its definitely one to bump in the clubs. Mostly rappin about fuckin bitches and hittin up the club. the only thing wrong with this song..if u listen to it too many times it just gets repetitive. im gonna give it a 3/5
05-After Party Featuring Trecherous Tick---Sleepdank and Trecherous Tick spit heat over this jungle/african sounding beat. its probly the bongo-sounding drums in the background that gives it this feel. i have never heard of Trecherous Tick before, but he flows good with a unique voice, look out for his name to start coming up. lyrics are mostly about the after party life which consists of liquor, bitches, music, etc...yall know. i really like this song, grows on me every time i hear it. a solid 4/5.
06-Rap Life---Sleepdank solo. J Deville produces this song, hella tight beat. really feelin it, sounds like somethin to cruise the streets to, gets your body movin. lyrics are mostly about the rap life..yall know..champagne wishes, escalades, etc..chorus is alright, a little repetitive, but doesnt take much away from the song. i will give this song a 3.5/5.
07-Do It Right---another Sleepdank solo, Johnny Z comes with his end of the bargain, and makes a hard beat for Sleep to spit heat over. this is a great song, and it gets better the louder u play it. Sleepdank raps mostly about the rap life again, definitely that bay shit, cars, liquor, etc. the thing i really like about this song is the killer bass line, somethin to ride to fosho. i will give this song a 4/5
08-Sometimes---another Sleepdank solo. rappin about everything in this song, his past experiences, his style, but mostly about fightin other g's. sleepdank sets this track on FIRE with his flow and lyrics. another tight beat, dunno who produced it, but i really like the bass line. not much else to say, i'll give this song a 4/5
09-Hot Shit---yes, another sleepdank solo. here he mentions "album number 2" so i guess this must be his second album. well ima have to get my hands on that. anyway, this is probly the first song on the album that im not feelin too much. it has a different feel than the other songs, its kind of like well theres too much noise goin on with the beat, too many things goin on. real noisy. the other beats had more of a mobb feel to it. Sleep doesnt switch up his style though, still spittin heat. i will give this song a 2.5/5, maybe if i listen to it more it will grow on me.
10-Osati-Interlude---just an interlude, some dude talkin about Sleepdank, then some girl comes in talkin about the same thing. i skipped over it
11-Pain Is Love---CRESTSIDAH! Sleepdank solo, bringin u some of that mobb shit. I like this beat, its a good one. the lyrics are good, flow with the beat, most of the lyrics are about his close homies and mentions the 7 deadly sinz in the chorus, and other shit. not much else to say about this song. i'll give it a 3.5/5
12-See My Flow---and YES, ANOTHER Sleepdank solo. great beat, shit is bangin...somethin to bump in your car, and u would enjoy this more with a nice pair of subs..im also liking the violin (i think?) in the background. great lyrics, rappin bout how he's one of the dopest lyricysts out the bay, crushin other lyricysts and how other rappers "cant see" his flow. good song, overall i will give it a 4/5
13-Oh No---Sleepdank solo. this is a great song, pretty much disses the whole east coast.."nas and jay z they went flow for flow, fuck a battle rapper, they goin blow for blow" "but i dont rape kids like r kelly" the chorus goes "i hate fake rappers, i hate fake niggaz" i really like this song because i feel the exact same way he does about the commercial rap scene, its all bullshit, or as he says "this rap shit's a joke ". Sleepdank basically explains how the whole commercial industry is bullshit "from the bay area's perspective", and the real deal is in the bay. i love the lyrics to this song. itgood tune, gonna give it a 3.5/5 just cuz the chorus kinda sucks, i think its kind of a parody of the east coast/commercial songs.
14-You Nasty Featuring Children Of Sin---Sleepdank and the Children Of Sin collabo, did a pretty good job of it too. im likin the lyrics in this song cuz they flow very well with the beat. the beat is like a cross between funk and mobb. its a song with a different feel to it, more upbeat. check it out fosho. give it a 3.5/5
15-Rollin Featuring Jacka & OPM1---now i really like Jacka, probly my favorite Mob Figa. this collabo wit Jacka and Sleepdank is tight as fuck; gangsta shit to the fullest. toss this cd in your ride, and switch to track 15 and crank the bass up. the beat is killer, just real gangsta is the only way i can describe it. the lyrics are good, Jacka's verse is kind of hard to understand, but still good. OPM1 comes across hard. never heard him rap before, but he's good. im likin this track a lot. 4.5/5
16-Rap Life (Remix) Featuring Mac Dre---Sleepdank collaboration wit Mac Dre on this one, a couple of g's reppin Crestside to the fullest. myself, am not a big fan of remixes, there aren't too many that i like. this one, i do not like. the beat is not very good at all. Mac Dre raps as always, same wit Sleepdank. no surprise here. not feelin the song. 2/5
17-With Us Featuring Dubee & Boss Hogg---Sleepdank wit Dubee and Boss Hogg. some more Crestside artists here. i like this song quite a bit, pretty tight. the beat is good, gets your head boppin. i like those high pitch noises in the background (if u dont know what im talkin about, refer to just about any song on Brotha Lynch Hung's Season OF Da Siccness album...). Dubee is still comin hard, flowin perfectly n sync with the beat, as does Boss Hogg. good tune, im likin it. 4.5/5
18-Bonus Track Featuring Mac Mall---Sleepdank wit Mac Mall on this song. the beat is different than the rest of the album, good idea sticking it as a bonus track cuz i dont think it fits in with the rest of the album. LOTS of bass on this song, its real noisy, Sleepdank and Mac Mall both come tight on this song, equally as good. i will give this song a 3.5/5
**the one thing i really liked about this album, was that Sleepdank didn't need a CD full of guest appearances to make this a solid album. 4 or 5 was just perfect.
well that about does it for this CD review, but it doesnt end my listening pleasure. I will definitely be bumping this CD for a couple weeks. it seems like Sleepdank wanted a project that showcased the lesser-known Vallejo talent by featuring artists such as Trecherous Tick, Children Of Sin and Dubee. i know Dubee is well known, but when most people think of Vallejo the first thing that comes to mind are artists such as E-40, B-Legit, Celly Cel, Mac Dre, Mac Mall, and so on. After listening to this album, Sleepdank will be among the first names that pops into my head, not just because i listened to his album recently, but because he is a mentionable artist, and definitely making a name for himself among the top artists in Vallejo. I hope you all took the time to read my review, as it will come in handy the next time u scroll past Sleepdank's album on ebay. overall this album gets a 4/5, among the better releases this year. (my favorite so far is C-Bo - The Mobfather)
