SJ Police To Begin Wearing Crime Cameras
CBS 5 CrimeWatchSAN JOSE (CBS 5 / KCBS)

Starting Friday, 18 San Jose police officers will be deployed with wearable cameras. San Jose is the first major city in the U.S. to use this new technology.

The camera comes from the same company that makes tasers. It is worn on the uniform and hooked up to a device worn on the ear.

"When an officer hits a button on the machine, it can track the audio and the video for everything they're seeing," said San Jose Police Chief Rob Davis.

Davis said this could transform law enforcement by recording everything the officers see.

Man all over SJ from the east, south, downtown and probally the west it's so sketchy with the black and whites during the weekends. They parade their patrol cars by the dozens and during mardi gras around downtown I swear they were out by the thousands blocking every other cross section and harrasing everyone they could.

i dont think the officers should be teh ones who can turn the cams on or off
i think they should be remote controlled by dispatch who are trained to record certain situations, like assault incidences shootings and arrest resisting, and any of the officers words vs yours incidents. and you should be allowed access to these recordings for your court defense

all in all the potential for abuse is just too high, and i dont want cops recording me randomly and asking other cops about me
