Two Shot Dead in The Sunset, One Shot to Death in The Excelsior

3 Fatal Shootings Within 40 Minutes In SF

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― Two of three fatal shooting victims who lost their lives within 40 minutes of each other Saturday morning have been identified by the San Francisco medical examiner's office.

Daly City resident Jason de la Cruz, 31, and San Francisco resident Derek Butch, 23, were fatally shot at 19th Avenue and Irving Street in the city's Sunset District just before 2:30 a.m., police said. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The first shooting occurred around 1:50 a.m. at Excelsior Avenue and Athens Street in the city's Excelsior neighborhood, police said.

One male victim, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second male victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

No suspect information was available for either shooting.

Asian mafia related. Whats fucked up is it was a case of mistaken identity. Dudes who got killed werent even involved. Automatic weapons too. Crazy.

Never expect that type of shit to happen in the Sunset.

Dudes that got shot in tha Sunset were just mindin their own business.....Jason was treatin his co-workers to some pizza and some drunkass youngster demanded free pizza too.....they got into it but shit was squashed.....then when they go outside to wait on their pizza a friend of tha drunkass was in a car and started shootin.....

Thats some shit...completely diff story than what I heard.

Pretty sure it was Asian mafia tho thats what he said cause apparently they know who did it.

Gonna have to ask dude again and get clarification.

Yeah my fiancee went to school wit Jason so her and her friends were talkin bout that shit since Saturday....shits fucked up

dont get asian mafia and fobs mixed up. asian fobs are all over always looking to fight you 10 to 1 with weapons. two of my friends got beat up with batons by like 15 fobs one day after school.

and white devil is right nothing usually happens in the sunset. its a decent area with few problems

The one thing I hate about the sunset is that they need more 4 way stop signs in that bitch! Youre bound to get hit by some chinese driver not payin attention....

obviously it depends on what part of the sunset u live in as far as how nice it is.

btw irving pizza is where the shooting was and that is one of the worst slices of pizza on the west coast. the only reason they're still in business is cuz it is open late night and caters to the drunk crowd.

Grew up with him and even saw him a few days before it happened, and he was one of the coolest down to earth cats you will ever meet ! You are missed brother ! Rest In Paradise !

Yea he said "Pizza on me" for all his workers in the spot and some Asian cat was like yea me too and started hella trippin, took it outside but it got squashed, then some dude came back and sprayed em up. RIP. STUPID SHIT.

(04-01) 15:37 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco police arrested a Daly City man today on suspicion of murdering two people this weekend outside a Sunset District pizza shop.

Matthew Owyang, 19, was arrested at 12:30 p.m. on a $20 million arrest warrant in the deaths of Jason De La Cruz, 31, of Daly City and his friend, Derek Butch, 23, of San Francisco, police said.

The men were shot to death at 2 a.m. Saturday outside a pizza joint on Irving Street near 19th Avenue.

De La Cruz, a manager with the Westlake Verizon Wireless store in Daly City, wanted to celebrate a great sales month in March by treating his sales team to drinks and pizza, family members said.

While in the Irving Pizza restaurant, De La Cruz said announced there would be "Free pizza on me" for his sales team, triggering a dispute with another customer who demanded free food, according to one witness.

De La Cruz then began to fight outside the store, but it appeared the dispute was resolved with a handshake. But another friend of the original customer emerged from a car and opened fire. Both men were dead at the scene.

Owyang did not give a statement to police after his arrest, authorities said. Prosecutors have 48 hours to file charges in the case.
