Oh shit! I'll be going for Mayorga but Mosley should be able to handle him no problem.

By Rick Reeno

Carl King, manager of Ricardo Mayorga, has informed BoxingScene.com of ongoing talks between Golden Boy Promotions and Don King Productions for a fight with "Sugar" Shane Mosley at a Las Vegas venue in May. Steve Kim has heard the date of May 17, at the Mandalay Bay, being thrown around on the Golden Boy end.

At the present, there is no agreement on the weight. King would like it to be at 154-pounds. Mayorga last fought at 166-pounds against Fernando Vargas, and has not made 147 since 2003. Mosley last fought at 147, but appears to be just as comfortable at 154. King says the weight class is not important, he's focused on securing this fight.

"We are having talks. Ricardo has not made 147 in a long time, but he swears he can make 147. My gut feeling is 154-pounds (for the fight). I feel he's at his best at 154 and that's where we want to be. None of these things are a deal breaker. We want the big fights and we won't let some technicality come between the big picture," King said.

This will be a good fight for Mosley to go out on. Even though his performance against Cotto wasn't a bad showing it would be much better for Mosley to go out on a win against a "name" fighter.

WHY what's the reason for this fight

two big names in the ring usually equals lots of money.

That and as naner stated, I think Mosley wants to go out on top against a big name opponent. He said he would likely retire after losing to Cotto so I think this is his last fight (maybe he'll fight again if he gets another good offer).

As for Mayorga, everyone knows he'll fight anyone, anytime, anyplace. He doesn't care. Plus after his win against Vargas he got a big head, callin out every big name in the sport, including Mayweather.

Mayorga will probably lose, but he will always have a chance to win because of his unpredictable style and his heavy punching. You never what can happen with Mayorga, he could stun/hurt Mosley at any moment, and I'm sure he knows that.

Should be a good fight. Mayorga had two good wins against another pure boxer in Vernon Forrest...but I think Shane is too smart to slug it out.

Sugar Shane 9 rounds to 3 in a lopsided UD.

Mayorga @ 147 will be too drained and will lose his best asset. His strength. Don't see either one of these guys getting KO'd, as both of 'em have iron chins.

Could be one of the easiest wins of Mosley's career, if he boxes.

On his part, he needs to say fuck the entertainment, and do what he needs to win, which is NOT trade blows.
easiest wins? naw i dont think so. dont forget that if mayorga catches him wit one, itll be lights out. also mayorga has actually gained some skill from watching his previous fight. also its not hard to trade blows when your opponent is probably going to be eggin you on. it should be a pretty good fight, but i think mosely has the advantage. im still goin for my boy el matador.

Shane can take a punch; he's been in there and gone the distance with great fighters, and with waaaaaaaaay better boxers than Mayorga. He's a true vet; I'm not worried about it.

Mayorga tires out horrible down the stretch, and Shane is in as good a shape as any fighter in the game, IMO.

There's a huge drop off from Mosley to Vargas.

I got Shane EASILY, but of course if he happened to lose, everyone can just chalk it up to old age like they did when Cotto beat him, even though before that fight everyone said he would K.O. Cotto....

LOL @ lights out.

Nobody has ever put Sugar Shanes lights out. Dudes chin is granite. He took Cotto's best shots and smiled.

Anyways...Shane is way to slick of a boxer to let Mayorga hit him with one of those looping punches that you could see developing from the nosebleed sections.

Should be a good fight. Mayorga had two good wins against another pure box
The tightest thing Mayorga ever did in life was stick his head out, put his hands all the way down and said hit me, to Vernon Forrest, which Forrest did, Mayorga did it again, Forrest hits him with everything he had, Mayorga same shit, hit me, lol fuck I've seen an animated gif of that Imma try to find it.

here is the youtube which isn't as good as the gif, but still tight:

^ Yeah...that shit was savage ! Killed any confidence Vernon had whatsoever. How can you be motivated to fight after your opponent barely even blinking at your best shots ?!
