the way i see it is a gun ban would only keep guns out of the hands of responsible gun owners who just want to protect themselves and their families. the irresponsible gun owners are still gonna get them off the streets. there is no way that will stop.

and the second ammendment says that we have the right to form militias AND to bear arms:

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

actually now that you mention it, I remember that the city passed a law for the legalization on medicinal marijuana, and the feds say that federal law appiles regardless. This is all just a formality.

That's one way to look at it. But you should also consider how many gun deaths there are every year in major european cities that have anti gun laws, as opposed to gun deaths in America, the #s are astonishing. And the way this sentence can be interperated..."A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." Is that the bearing of arms comes in the context of "A well regulated militia." But hey, the Supreme court still hasn't definitively said what this means, so it's up for discussion.

That is the point I'm making, when I said the #'s are astonishing I meant because America has so many, while places in Europe with anti gun laws have so few. It's an obvious equation...less guns = less gun violence.

like someone said earlier, this only effects "legal and honest " gun owners. fact is most guns on the street are dirty and very easy to get. which means now only criminals will be armed, that isnt good for store owners.
