I'm happy with it. now we gotta sign ordonez or dye. or if sabean can work out a miracle...beltran

I think this guy is way underrated. Giants went beyond what I thought they would spend and got the real deal. Check out his stats from last year and you'll notice he had better stats than Gagne.

^^^thats such a Giants move though...its like, i guess they saw this as the best thing they could have gotten, and they jsut wanted to secure the deal...hopefully he'll come through. Get rid of Herges, and fuck hermanson too.

I was listening to ESPN radio on my way home from San Jose the day before yesterday and they said that statistically, Armando Benitez is the 3rd best relief pitcher in the game, and 9th *ALL-TIME* on the list. I'm just glad we got someone who will secure Schmidt's W's, I mean, he pitched like 4-5 GEM's last year and didn't get a win in any of them.

I also have to agree with BAMMER, they spent to much on him. You sign a player to 7mil/yr *AFTER* they have succeeded on your team. They should have gave him 5-7 mil for one year, then after the year is over, offer him an extended contract accordingly. I also agree that, and yes, I wish we had Nathan back.

As for Hermanson, I would rather have Livan Hernandez pitch with a broken arm. The Dodgers might as well just sign him he pretty much played for both teams last year.

^^^hah, seriously..........i saw hermanson blow two games out of like, the 5 i went to last year. un-fuckin-believable.

Hermanson and Herges are both guys that if u bring them in the 9th, and ur up 3 runs, u still feel uneasy.

didnt benitez crash for the mets when they were in the playoffs.

i think you guys took a big chance with this guys. signing him to all of that money after 1 good season that followed several not very good seasons.

keeping Nathan would have been alote better, signing Percivol would have been alote better.

he isnt worth much more then 3-4 million a year with 1 year guaranteed and an option for a second depending on his performance in the first.

Armando Benitez was the #1 closer on the free-agent market so I can say the Giants did their best. The contract is backloaded meaning they will continue to acquire free-agents(Sabean said so on KNBR) in the offseason.

if so then maybe the deal wasnt that bad, that is assuming he does well.

but if it is backloaded then that will kill you guys in 2006 and 2007 if he doesnt do good and you want to unload him.
