What HD system did you get?. If you got the money for a pro tools HD system i would go with a Neuman U87 mic. I myself am about to order the HD 3 system and the Control 24. Let me know how you like your set up.

Why would you get a control 24 with no HD anyway? Control 24 doesn't really do anything, it's just a big ass mouse. But if you need an all around good mic , I would probably get the Neumann U87 too, or an AKG c12 VR. Make sure you get a good Mic Pre too, the ones on the Control board aren't that good. I would probably get a focusrite isa 428, or an Avalon 737, those are both pretty good all around.

does it matter on what Digi control surface you get? I mean will your mixes sound better if you get a 002 over like an M-Box?, is there more extras to the software if you spend more money?

Yeah, I haven't heard anything good about the Mbox, I would probably try to find a digi 001. I see them used for about 4-500.

Same as the 002 minus a few upgrades but you should be happy with it. I've used one for a few years now and never had any problems.

The 002 and M-Box are audio interfaces, not control surfaces.

You should just go read up on this stuff at the digidesign website.

The mixer depends on what your budget in and for many people, what type of sound they want. This is without even going into whether you want to go digital or analog.

I have a soundtracs MRX 32/8 console which I use with a Neumann TLM 103 with the onboard pre-amps. So far, I am more than glad that I traded my Yamaha 02r for it since the MRX gives me a ton of headroom over the 02r. I liked the yamaha sound and the accurate eq'ing on it but the MRX more than makes up for it with its sound quality.

If you have the budget I'd recommend a soundtracs solitaire board. You can only find them used so you'd have to really look around. If you want new, look around for allen & heath consoles or soundcraft.

@MOE I agree with everyone buying xy and z. I have gear I don't use and at this point care to never use. I also had gear I didn't know how to use and sold. It's best to research this stuff before cash is spent.

If he does plan on getting a mixer (i wouldnt get one if i were him) I would second the sound craft suggestion and look into the GHOST console.

@the original poster what exactly do you plan on doing besides laying rap vocals?
