thaFormula.com - It's good to finally see you dropping your album. It's been a long time coming...

Sean Price - Yeah man. I have put alot of work in. I started and I still am with the Boot Camp Click. I was part of a group called Heltah Skeltah which was part of Boot Camp. Eventually we put out 2 albums, Nocturnal and Magnum Force.

thaFormula.com - Was Nocturnal everything you thought it could have been?

Sean Price - Yeah, it was a great album at the time. There wasn't to many albums out at that time fuckin' with Nocturnal.

thaFormula.com - Now on your second LP you hooked up with the Dogg Pound. What was that connection like?

Sean Price - Technically we just worked with Daz. Kurupt wasn't there. It was cool though. Daz was a real cool dude. We went in there, he had some smoke and some drink, and we just went in there and laid it down. At the time he had a deal with Priority too. He was working on his first album too. It was a good vibe. Outlawz was there and it was nice.

thaFormula.com - Boot Camp and Death Row always seemed to have a good connection. You guys never got caught up in the whole East/West situation?

Sean Price - Good people respect good people. I'm not even gonna run that real recognize real bullshit line. It's just Daz is good peoples and they were hooked up with good peoples. Likewise with me and Rock. We hooked up with Daz and he was a alright brother. We met Tray Dee that day and Big Pimpin at the studio. It was a beautiful thing. Somebody had a gun in there that was so big man. The dude named it Bertha, so duke know about Bertha. It was big as a muthafucka, some Johnny Rambo shit. But I had fun though.

thaFormula.com - Did that second album do as good as the first for you?

Sean Price - It didn't do as well as the first one did, but we still made money off of it and got on the road.

thaFormula.com - At that point in time, what happened with Heltah Skeltah?

Sean Price - Rock went solo. They dropped the whole Duck Down label from Priority. They kept Heltah Skeltah for a minute, but Rock got his solo deal and they dropped me. Technically that's how it went down.

thaFormula.com - Were you upset at the situation at all?

Sean Price - Yeah, maybe. Not mad at anyone in particular because when Rock was doing his album on Priority, I was there.

thaFormula.com - Were you thinking about doing a solo joint during this time?

Sean Price - Nope. I was thinking about quitting.

thaFormula.com - So what kept you going then?

Sean Price - Honestly, I was listening to Rock's album. The last version that he never came out with is bangin', but the first version was kind of loose to me. I felt that I could do better then that. No disrespect to my man. It was just that I felt I could do that. So I went in one day, my man had a beat and I did "Solidify." I just laid it down in one take. I thought it was hot, but nobody was checkin for it. So I had to create a buzz. I started jumpin' on different projects and shit started pickin' up. For like 7 months straight I was in The Source for something. My name was always somewhere doing something. I just kept at it doing more and more songs and I always had the album name "Monkey Bars." I just thought it was an ill title. So I just kept promoting it even when I didn't have an album done. I put out a mixtape called "Donkey Sean Jr." and I'm here now.

thaFormula.com - So who did you roll with for production on your debut album "Monkey Bars"?

Sean Price - I got Agallah of course on there. I got 9th Wonder and his homeboy Khrysis. I got PF Cuttin. The beats is incredible. Even a beat that sounds bugged out to you, when I start spittin, it's Earth, Wind, & Fire on the mic. Everything is hard body. Ain't no bullshit on my album. Ain't no sucka shit on my album at all. I got no Beatminerz because me and them are gonna do a whole album together. I don't want them to throw 2 joints on my album just to satisfy the people. Da Beatminerz usually set the tone.

thaFormula.com - Is that what Beatminerz wasn't on the second Heltah Skeltah album?

Sean Price - Nah, we just didn't wanna fuck with them, honestly. But those are my peoples. We grown men though. Sometimes we agree and and sometimes we disagree.

thaFormula.com - Why do you think you guys have always been able to change with the times and maintain, while others have just completely fallen off?

Sean Price - Honestly. I'm nice son. Not even on no cocky bullshit. I'm nice, but nobody knows it. The people that do know it, are there for me all the time. There is alot of nice dudes out there. They don't know I'm nicer then them, but I am. I'm nicer then all them dudes. It's just that for some reason I'm stuck here on the underground level. If you set them up a mic and set me up, Imma handle my handle. That's no braggadocio shit, that's the truth. I went up to a radio station a while ago and their was this rapper up there that everybody love. He was supposed to be the hottest nigga, but I'm not gonna get into him because niggaz is sensitive Ralph Tresvant type niggaz nowadays. Anyway, I crushed this nigga. I destroyed this nigga. When I got back to Brownsville, niggaz acted like I knocked Mike Tyson out. But that was nothing, I'm supposed to do that. I'm Muhammad Ali in his prime right now. I'm a late bloomer. Nocturnal was my first rhyme book. But these dudes out here is cornballs so they don't show me no love.

thaFormula.com - Does it bother you being stuck in that underground scene?

Sean Price - I love my peoples, but I do get mad sometimes because I know I am nicer then them dudes. The chips fall where they may though. I'm not hatin' I used that energy to make me nicer. I need the peoples ear. Once I get the peoples ear, you will have no choice but to love Sean P.

thaFormula.com - So what's your relationship with Rock nowadays & will there ever be another Heltah Skeltah LP?

Sean Price - Me and Rock is cool. I don't even dwell on all that shit like that. My whole movement right now is Sean P and the growth and development of Sean Price. I'm not trying to go backwards to a certain degree. I'm not sayin' that I won't ever to a Heltah Skeltah ever again, but I'm trying to move forward. Rock he is doing his thing and got his movement to. I'm all for that, but right now I got to do me. I just don't want people to lose the focus on my shit. "Monkey Barz" is out now, pick it up!

That was a damn good interview. Good looking out ColdBlooded. Monkey Barz is one of the best albums to come out this year IMO. Price is just dope as fuck.

I have been a fan of his since he went By Ruck as part of Heltah Skeltah (from Boot Camp Clik.) I would love to hear anothere Heltah Skeltah album...the first two are sick as fuck.

Price's official mixcd that came out in 04, Donkey Sean Jr., is a really dope mixcd.

Good looking out on the video link too.

You had me rolling with you should change the title to something about G-Unit...LMFAO.
