Ok so I know you have to pay 29.99 per required data plan with any smartphone. I just think its crazy how its required now. Shouldn't internet and data be a choice? And ya I know i could choose not to own my Droid which i might just down grade because between my wife's blackberry and my droid its an extra 60 freakin bucks a month! What does everyone else think about the required data plans now?

Why on earth would you want a smartphone if you're not going to use the internet or any of the down loadable apps and features? The whole point of a smart phone is to be connected.

Exactly its called a smartphone for a reason, it does more than just make calls. So why would you want it if your not gonna use data.

The reason they want you to commit to a data plan is cause providers sell you phones at a cheaper price than they bought it for (subsidized.) So if we commit to a 2 yr contract they make the money they lost back from us over those years. Overseas its different, they pay full price, anywhere from 500 to 700 bucks for a phone cause there arent any contracts you commit to.

Yeah if you dont use internet or dont plan on using apps get a damn flip phone.. shits not cheap in our country!!
Also they require it so you dont end up using the internet and saying "you didnt mean to" and them refund $400 or something on your bill for your used bandwidth.

just get an ipod touch and buy a cheap texting phone. Saves you hundreds in the long run

It sucks lugging around both. I ended up selling my itouch on ebay, cause I normally have a laptop on me, and was no need for it. I got a classic ipod in the ride for music

I have a cricket phone... and I'm able to to get unlimited talk, text and internet for a flat $56 a month. For bay heads Cricket is like the 1/2 step above metro.

seriously lol

i'm guessing the keyboard is what you want? there are plenty of non-smartphones out there with keyboards that don't require data plans.

I had a motorola Razor for years and I got tired of it because it didn't have all the features that other people have on their phones. I was feeling left out and cheap.

In December I went into the store and found out I was due for an upgrade.

Ended up getting a blackberry for free with a 2 year contract. Had to sign up for the required data package for 29.99 a month. It's unlimited access and they're doing you a favor by requiring the data package so you don't get hit up with all those fees that comes with using the internet on your phone.

Just upgraded my plan too so now I have to pay more a month. So now I have more minutes and internet for $50 more a month. Oh well....

Its not stupid to get the phone and to not use internet or that crap with it. Before when i really couldn't afford the data plans and it was an option my wife still had the blackberry and loved it. Its the whole phone itself not what all it can do. The whole keyboard for texting is way better than any shit flip phone. So because I like the features on a Smartphone that so happens to be able to get on the internet, I am required to get a data plan? For what? to make sure I can facebook and twitter while taking a shit at a restaurant? I understand the whole GPS thing and looking something up real quick which dont get me wrong is very nice but just not required enough to need it. But I dont feel I need to downgrade the entire phone just because I dont want internet. That shit is stupid.

The only way you would get charged those fees without a data plan would be if you went on the internet. So I say that to ask this, Why the fuck would you go on the internet on your phone when you dont have a data plan? So your saying they are doing you a favor from being an idiot lol. I think its like 1.25 per MB used....

I hear you mayne... I thought it was something like $1.99 per MB. I don't know I could be wrong though.... I just decided to pay for it so I don't have to worry about the hassle. Just gives you a piece of mind man so now I don't have to monitor my minutes and/or internet use. My bill is more expensive but it is what it is... just comes with having a smartphone.
