San Jose police are looking for a teenage boy suspected of raping a 10-year-old girl early Saturday morning. The suspect, 16-year-old Michael Hostia of San Jose, is a known Norteno gang member who police say poses a threat.
"We don't usually identify juveniles,'' said San Jose police Sgt. Steve Dixon, "but when they're armed and dangerous we put out their photograph and name.''
According to Dixon, Hostia met the girl on New Year's Eve while in her southeast San Jose neighborhood. The girl, who was with a group of young people at the time, befriended the suspect and later agreed to accompany him on a walk. The two ended up at Dahl Elementary School in the 3200 block of Water Street just after midnight. There Hostia allegedly brandished a knife and sexually assaulted the girl.
"He threatened to kill her if she tried to get away,'' Dixon said. Hostia fled after the assault. The girl ran home and reported the incident to her mother, who notified authorities. She was taken to a hospital, treated and released.
We're looking for him, and we think he knows he's wanted,'' Dixon said of Hostia, who witnesses say frequents the Dahl School neighborhood.
Hostia is being sought on several felony sex charges in relation to the assault. He is described as a Latino youth, 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 120 pounds, with brown eyes and short brown hair. He has an "S'' tattooed on his left calf and a "J'' tattooed on his right calf, Dixon said.
Anyone with information on Hostia's whereabouts is urged to call 911
