No clue.....but I can only think that I got nominated for the following reasons..
A) My Coverage in the Reader.
B) My work as a promoter with the venues, and 30+ Shows since the last SDMA's.
the academy who picks all of the nominees is made up of all of the Talent Bookers @ the major Venues in SD, the music editors of the San Diego Reader & City Beat. basically a group of industry professionals from around the city...but they DO NOT have someone who is well informed on the happenings with Hip Hop.
if I was in charge of it I would not have even consider myself for a nomination.
I have no solo record released to date, other than a little grimmey 10 track mixtape.
yeah I have gained alot of word of mouth, been on most of the internet radio stations and done ALOT of shows, but I still think that they should have nominated BLAME ONE and even given him the award since he is the best selling SD Hip Hop Artist of 2009 by a long shot.
there is a lack of legitimate professional representation for Hip Hop in general in the upper echelons of the SD Music Machine.
I would be more than willing to rub elbows with those folks and keep an ear to the streets just so they don't treat hip hop like a misunderstood teenager...
it's seems as if they were like...."Jimmy Powers, yeah we have seen his name everywhere, let's nominate him."
I am not mad at the recognition, but I don't think me being on that ballot was a well thought out researched decision.
I have no problem saying that..
