Critically and commercially acclaimed actor Samuel L. Jackson recently said that he wasn't fond of rappers using their celebrity to become actors. Jackson said that he will not even look at a script that would give a rapper a starring role.

"It's not my job to lend credibility to so-and-so rapper who's just coming into the business," Jackson told the Sacramento Bee. "To take people from the music world and give them the same kind of credibility and weight that you give me, Morgan Freeman, Laurence Fishburne, Forest Whitaker -- that's like an aberration to me," Jackson said.

Jackson starred in "Shaft," which gave Busta Rhymes a very prominent role. He will also star in the upcoming movie "XXX," which features Eve. While he says that he will not star along side rappers anymore, he did praise Will Smith, who has starred in various feature films.

"I know there's some young actor sitting in New York or L.A. who's spent half of his life learning how to act and sacrificing to learn his craft but isn't going to get his opportunity ... because of some actor who's been created," he said.

"XXX" opens August 9th nationwide and a sequel is already in the works for Christmas of 2004.

I agree with this whole thing, I feel that rappers/singers need to stay off of the big screen, its already bad enough that they are all over tv and magazines, most of rappers/singers couldnt act ther way out of a paper bag, if you need proof see "Glitter" for a primary example of why singers shouldnt be acting.

This is why I groaned when I first heard that Aaliyah was cast in Matrix: Reloaded. IMHO, the Matrix label was well above hiring music stars to help garner ticket sales. The franchise is a legend in itself.

Studios cast rappers/singers when they know the product already sucks out the blocks and they know they need to gravy-train something, ANYTHING or anyone to help boost the paying traffic thru the turnstiles.

Keanu Reeves is a horrible actor and the Matrix was a horrible movie both fit together like a glove.
I pity L Fishburne by wasting his talents on a horrible movie like this but I'm sure he's getting paid alot of money.

Reeves is no Tom Hanks by any stretch but, to deny the Matrix it's place in movie history is utter blasphemy. Sure it had corny lines here and there and maybe the acting was subpar in stretches. But the movie was revolutionary nonetheless.

I'm not even going to list the many aspects of film design, production, execution, and mastering that this landmark piece re-shaped. Just look at how many others (film and tv) have ripped it off.

Oh yeah, and the special FX kicked all ass that came before it.

If you strip away the special effects then what do you have?
A basic boy meets girl, falls in love and then saves the world!

The Maxtrix is below Waterworld in my book and both of those rank as my top 2 worst movies of all time.

If you strip away Keanu Reeves and the special effects and EVERYTHING else, and you ONLY had the story-line...

It would still be a legend.
