I heard Sam Goody has stopped accepting product on consignment from local/indy artists. I dont know if this is a NW-only policy or a nationwide thing, and i have no idea how this will affect (if at all) local artists with a good Sam Goody sales history...any one got any info?

What you think of this, D?

Sam Goody has always been helpfull with me when asking about consignments. I think even though there a franchise its all based apon the owner of each location.. Everytime ive inquired i have been established with a phone number to call. Its really easy if you can talk business with the owner and provide what there looking for.

i used to work for them back in the day. the stores that are doing it don't have to....they do it to help the artists out as far as i can tell. it's more trouble for them and artists don't follow up or even pick up their checks half the time. i see why they want to stop doing it in a way, but i hope they don't.

This is what has happend. And this should be no big surprise to anybody.......

Basically most of the Sam Goody managers are sick of dealing with consignments. Because of:

-lack of sales (due to the next 2 reasons)
-lack of promotion
-sub-par product
-people not keeping up on their paperwork and letting their consignments expire
-label reps who don't return phonecalls or acknowledge letters from managers
-label reps who get mad because SLR has the listening station more than they do and get attitudes with the managers ( lol....:devious: )
-more or less just wasting the time of already overworked managers

At this point.....I'm pretty much the ONLY consignment that alot of stores still have. Actually SLR and Unexpected Arrival are from what I've seen the only 2 still in stores. I can't tell you how many times these strore managers have complained to me about cats just totally fuckin' their consignments off. Or gettin' attitudes with them because they want in the listening station again after they were already in there for 2 weeks and didn't sell a single copy. But I've been doing consignments for over 4 years now and have a great relationship with all of the managers. I'm even real cool with the district manager and chop it up with him for hella when I see him. I build good relationships with these people......and I understand that they are helping me because they WANT TO......not because they HAVE TO. It's a beautiful thing. Plus my shit sells......so that's a plus too. lol

yo, people need to stop freaking out....

they are just not taking consignments during the holiday season.......

all the stores i have talked to, in the last few days have told me they have no problem taking new product (at least from me) in the new year....just not right this minute.....

I think its all a matter of attack with the stores....but I agree 100% with the things dsane was saying....

I think anyone can get into damn near any store they want if they work it right...shit, when there is a will, there is a way....please beleive...

one love

Oh yeah....that's another reason as well. They need the shelf space for the holiday season.....and it's normal for them to scale back their consignments.

And Doofy thinks it's all peaches & cream during the holidays........

thanks

Yo, thanks for all the answers. Retail relationships are important. It's lame to hear about local labels blowing them off. I guess this just goes to show how important it is to have a good distributor backing you.

I know where you got this........from Sonny on the SeaHipHop group.

It may have been that the store manager just didn't take him seriously and made up some excuses. Unfortunately they do that sometimes when they don't want to take on somebody's product. I can get to the bottom of it though.....I have to see most of these stores in the coming weeks anywayz.

Neema put it best. It's the holiday season and anyone who has been doing cons know that Sam Goody shuts down every winter holiday season. D- you're not the only one in the stores. WE in all those stores too and the ones in several other states.
And some of those managers do have a stick up their asses sometime. But none the less it is a favor to the artists.
