Safari and IE8 get shamed at Pwn2Own, Chrome still safe... for now

Ahead of the most recent Pwn2Own, Google made a rather proud challenge: it'd pay $20,000 to any team or individual who could successfully hack Chrome. Two takers signed up for that challenge -- and then both backed down. One individual didn't show up and a second entry, known as Team Anon, decided to focus their efforts elsewhere. There's still time left for someone to come out of the woodwork and scrape off that polish, but as of now no brave souls have registered intent. Meanwhile, IE8 was taken down by Stephen Fewer, who used three separate vulnerabilities to get out of Protected Mode and crack that browser's best locks. Safari running on a MacBook Air got shamed again, cracked in just five seconds. Not exactly an improvement compared to how it fared in 2008.

also, what do they mean by hacked? hacking what? its installed on your comp all the code is right there
hacking basically means entering where you shouldnt. COMPUTAH RAEP

so these "protected" modes on browsers shouldnt give the wrong people access to sensitive information (encrypted info/passwords/history etc)

but these h4x0rz showed them that their shit is still swiss cheese.
(CRACKED IN 5 SECONDS? LOL)

i switched to chrome because the thread i saw here on siccness. everyone cosiigned its speed and they were right.

EVERYONE WHO STILL GOT FIREFOX.. GO GET FIRESHEEP.

yeah but i can access all my passwords and shit by just going to the security tab in options anyway, so what is the challenge?
If you are able to hack the browsers you are able to create malicious code (virus, spyware, etc) that affects that browser. If I want to make a virus and have it on www.milakunisdoesanal.com and I know how to hack IE8 then I will be able to affect all IE8 visitors, but not chrome visitors.

so ggogle chrome is the way to go now?
Different browsers are better for different people and situations. I use Firefox/IE at work, but Chrome at home.

by hacked they mean

They are able to execute the calculator application on the victim machine. Also they have to write to a file on the victim machine that is outside the realm of the browser application to prove they have compromised the system. Both of those things must happen without crashing the web browser when the victim machine accesses a site setup by the contestants or whatever.

just goes to show how much microsoft fucking sucks

I been telling you brehs for a while now

They lost 1.2 million dollars in online xbox money because they randomize number codes without really randomizing them and a 12 year old can predict the sequence

Also windows phone 7 which everyone loves so much made a deal with nokia which made nokia employees want to walk out on the company. However to get nokia to push windows phone 7 Microsoft paid nokia 1 billion dollars

Microsoft is a faggot
