SACRAMENTO—
The Sacramento Police Department arrested 29-year-old Ka Yang for the alleged murder of her 6-week-old daughter, Mirabelle Thao-Loa.
Back on March 17, police responded to a house in the 800 block of Rood Avenue, where there were reports of a dead baby. Fire investigators told them the baby had facial injuries, and people at the scene said an adult was holding the girl, had a seizure, and dropped her.
However, after a three month investigation, investigators found extensive thermal injuries killed the baby. The injuries were consistent with only three other cases from Dayton, Ohio; New Kent County, Virginia; and Galveston, Texas.
They believe these burns came from a microwave oven.
Neighbors are shocked. One woman, Desiree Caruthers, spoke to FOX40 and said it's horrific to learn this is what happened to the baby. She said the house has been very quiet since the baby died, and she didn't know the family very well.
Another neighbor said she hugged Yang Monday, and offered to mow her lawn since she thought the mother was dealing with her baby's death.
Yang apprently has three other children, all boys, who were taken into protective custody the day Mirabelle Thao-Loa died.
Yang was taken into custody on Tuesday, June 21st. She was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and charged with homicide.
