The two-time defending IFL team champion Quad City Silverbacks will be without their welterweight, Rory Markham, as they attempt to threepeat in the team finals September 20, in Hollywood, Florida against the New York Pitbulls.
Markham suffered a hand injury in his TKO win over Chris Clements in the semifinals on August 2 and will not be able to compete in the finals.
Markham was scheduled to take on Pitbulls' Delson Heleno. The injury to Markham has left Silverbacks coach Pat Miletich looking for a replacement which may be easier said than done.
Miletich informed MMAWeekly that all of his welterweights are committed to other organizations and he may have to go outside Team Miletich to find a replacement.
The loss of Markham is certainly a blow to the Silverbacks. In IFL competition Markham has a 6-1 record with his only IFL defeat at the hands of Chris Wilson in the second IFL team championship finals on December 29, 2006.
