Ron Artest wants to be traded from the Los Angeles Lakers, a source told ESPN.com. Artest’s agent, David Bauman, declined to comment.
One reason Artest wants out is that he is “weary of being scapegoated” for the team failing to play to expectations, according to the website. He feels the organization is reluctant to place blame on players such as Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and Derek Fisher.
While Artest has also admitted that he has trouble grasping Phil Jackson’s triangle offense, he’s not happy about being “marginalized” in the system.
Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak said earlier this week that the team will consider making a trade before the Feb. 24 deadline. But it won’t be easy to find a taker for the 31-year-old Artest, who has three years and $21.8 million left on his contract and is having what many consider his worst season as a pro.
