I came across a JD-990 and It doesn't have a instruction manual, I don't know how to get it to play more than 1 midi channel at a time. Can anyone help me out. This thing has some real cool sounds and I'm anxious to get it up and going but this lil problem is holding me back. I got it in my studio set up with a Mpc 2000 and a Proteus 2000, thanx.

There is no buttons in the left corner. Your talkin about the SuperJD-990 right? I looked all over this thing for those buttons and there isn't any. Is there a way to do it in the midi menu? there is a midi window and a rxmidi window. I hope you can help me. What do you think of this piece of gear? peace.

That is a classic right there! The best part about it, IMO, is the multi-stage envelopes. You get attack, decay1, level1, decay2, sustain, and release. That makes for some very unique sounds. If I'm not mistaken, Ant Banks used to use it (or a jd800) a whole lot. Listen to his 'Big Badass' album to hear what it can do.

OOPS! I thought you said JD-800. On the JD-990 you just put it in PERFORMANCE mode by hitting the "PERFORM"button located to the right of the big round wheel.

Once you've done that you can set the sounds/midi channels by hitting F2. Select which part you want to change by using the 'tone switch' and 'tone select' A,B,C,D buttons.

Both the JD-800 and JD-990 are tight in my opinion. I have both and don't have any plans to get rid of either one. I was using the 800 just yesturday for a couple parts.

8 parts, yeah. It's 8-part multi-timbral. Remember, the JD-990 came out in 1993 so it's pretty old. I'm pretty sure the JV-1080 was the first 16-part multi-timbral gear Roland made. That came out a year after the 990.
