LOS ANGELES, Oct. 19, 2007 (KABC-TV) - The recording industry has intensified its crackdown on the illegal downloading of music online.
Now it's suing 36 USC students for allegedly doing so.
The Recording Industry Association of America says it is taking the action to protect copyright laws and deter people from pirating music.
The general manager of USC's campus radio station explained why she thinks students download music.
"I think more than anything it's not an issue of 'I don't want to pay for my music.' It's more of an issue of 'I want my music now,' which is things like iTunes. Instant gratification," said KSCR-AM General Manager Aisah Gemora.
The recording industry claims more than half of all college students download music illegally.
