when it comes to music.....what makes you "respect" an artist.....

his street stripes?

or

his skillz as an artist?

I'm curious.....

cause it seems now-a-dayz....it's either you get shot 9 times, or have a glass jaw to make it major......

yeah, i'm over exagerating, but y'all get the point...

If someone gets by on their skills and maintains it, I can respect that.

If someone want to make it seem they're from the streets and they really are like many folkers around, then I can respect that too.

As long as people are who they claim to be it's all good. But getting shot doesn't really mean much. I know girls that don't come around that been on the line of fire and got shot and that doesn't make them much. Same thing with guys because anyone can get shot.

the ability to touch on subjects that i personally can relate to..the ability to speak on things in depth..if they gonna talk about killing and slangin drugs...be in depth..touch on the mental struggle that comes along with that lifestyle..the ability to actually stay on topic...

now of course if there whole persona on the mic revolves around how street they are and the dirt they do...than i will respect them more if they have the credability to back those raps..if not..im not really trippin so long as they arent the exact opposite and actually make good music

this is what makes me respect and artist

IN ORDER FOR ME TO RESPECT AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IS PURSUIN THE SAME THING I'M PURSUIN. I HAVE TO SEE WHERE HE/SHE IS COMIN FROM HOW SHE OR HE PORTRAIT'S HIMSELF THROUGH THE MUSIC. BUT ALSO AS A HUMAN BEING CAUSE THAT WHAT COMES FIRST BEFORE THIS RAP SHIT BEING HUMAN. I RESPECT A RAPPER WHEN HE/SHE ADMITS THEIR MISTAKE'S PORTRAITS MUSIC WITHOUT THE NEED TO LIE IN THEIR RHYME'S. I RESPECT A RAPPER WHO BEEN THROUGH HELL AND BACK AND COMES OUT OF IT WITHOUT A SCAR THAT I CAN RELATE TO. I COULD RESPECT SOMEBODY WHO GIVE'S BACK TO THEIR FAN'S AND BASICALLY THANKIN THEM FOR TAKIN THE TIME TO PICK UP THEIR CD AND ADDIN A FEW CENT'S TO THEIR POCKET'S. WITHOUT THEM THEY WOULDN'T BE SHIT.

music is entertainment..........

but nowadays everyone is a gangsta. not sayin im all that but know the thangs i do and been through. in my town niggas know me by my real name. the music didnt make me who i am. my whole thing is just keep it real. to many niggas be bullshittin in there music. but if they can live with that, more power to you. thats why i feel at somepoint we as the homeboys doin this music thang cant be held down 4 to much longer cause what we represent and how we get down is a reality. not sayin that niggas is puttin themselves out there. with age comes knowledge. i can respect an individual if that makes any sense. not an actor, cause you are the first to run...................it is what it is.

Skills most definately, I respect artists that also blow up from underground, ain't it weird how most mainstream rappers were never underground? But street shit, I don't care much, because it's about the music, that's what rap was built on, but I will respect a hard motherfucker.

truth is stripes and street cred dont really matter that much, nowadays you could be some dont no from nowhere and blow up and just deny being a bitch in the past. lyrical skill is all that matters really unless you know for a fact the the artist is fake
