if i have sum instrumentals that were given 2 me in 16 bit, 44100 q....
does it make sense 2 convert the session 2 24 bits, 48000
& record my vocals in a 24 bit session??
or would i just be wasting space????

also...on a sidebar:
can sum1 tell me the differences
btween the uses of of the 48000 & 96000 frequency settings???

It would make sense to import/convert to 24 bit but I woudnt change the sample rate to 48k. I had a problem like this (when i was recording my album) and the 48k sessions were off in pro tools. They were out of sync, could not be synced to the correct clock and were as SSSSSSSLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW as an escort with four flat tires with four fat chicks on their way to 24 hour fitness.

As for waisting space do you plan on processing the vocals and doing a lot of mixing? If so go 24. If you dont plan on doing a lot of processing or mixing don't bother.

Personally I wouldnt record at 48 or 96khz. I would record at 44.1 and 88.2. If your final destination is a 16 bit 44.1k cd what happens to the left over digits when you go from 48 to 44.1 or 96 to 44.1? *DOWN SAMPLING*. Blame the record companies for 48k. The higher the sample rate the better your original signal is transferred/"remsampled.

look into those words.

BE COOL.

LOL @ the escort crak!
i actually had that problem already with my sessions in PT FREE.......
i just thought that generally when u record in 24 bit
the frequency rate is optimal @ 48000......

yes i plan on doing alot of vocals & mixing them down,
maybe even effects.....
i know as far as the instrumentals......
when i do convert them 2 24 from 16 that IS wasting space.....
but i gotta do it if i wanna record the vox in 24
& therefore have it 4 24 bit mixing/mastering

thanx 4 the timely response HERESY.....
will help a lot......

BEat can be 16 or 24 bit 44.1 When you master they will upsample to 90+ both giving that air quality mastered records have... As long as your at 44.1 you should be straight..
