here are a lot of PlayStation 3 exclusives coming out in 2011, and one of those titles that has gamers extremely interested is Resistance 3. While rumors are swirling about what the Resistance 3 trailer or reveal at the upcoming Spike Videogame Awards will be, the US PlayStation Blog has given us new information on Insomniac's upcoming shooter in the here-and-now.
The blog verifies a lot of information that gamers already knew, or theorized about. For instance, Joseph Capelli is indeed Resistance 3's main character. The blog post (written by Marcus Smith of Insomniac) reveals that Capelli, discharged from service since the events of Resistance 2, was hiding out with his wife Susan and son Jack in the middle of the United States, at a location called Haven, Oklahoma. The Chimera have won the worldwide conflict decisively, and Capelli's journey across the United States towards New York City in Resistance 3 is a journey taken in order to try to take one last stand against complete Chimera domination. Any remaining vestiges of humanity are being systematically eliminated by what Smith coins as "roving death squads and drones," and from the images in the story, hope seems to be non-existent.
It's the last paragraph in the blog post that's most interesting, however, as it confirms or freshly reveals actual gameplay aspects of Resistance 3 that fans can now eagerly anticipate. Smith confirms that the weapon wheel is making its return to the series, which will allow Capelli to access any weapon in his arsenal. Those weapons will now also be upgradeable. In terms of co-op, Smith states that the single-player campaign will indeed support two-player co-op, and that it can be played locally via split-screen, or online. And perhaps most tantalizingly of all, Smith states that Resistance 3's multiplayer will be "much more focused" as well as "progression-based" and promises new details as the game inches closer to the fall of 2011, when the game is set to be released to the masses.
