Report Back from 2/26/11: Anti-Cop Action Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 02/27/2011 - 12:44pm

On the night of February 26th, 20 anarchists dressed in black with masks covering their faces met at the intersection of Boren and Howell (where John T Williams was killed) in Seattle. A banner was seen reading “Cops Murder Everywhere, Bite Back!” (in reference to http://pugetsoundanarchists.org/node/229). People began to paint around the intersection on walls and on the ground, a roller piece was seen in the street reading in big white letters “Fuck the Pigs”. Fences were cut down and thrown into the street. Caution tape was wound around the four poles of the intersection.

A cop pulled up within minutes but was sprayed down with a fire extinguisher into his window, causing him to leave immediately. Minutes later more cops came from the other direction demanding that people take down the caution tape, their demands were met with “Fuck you”'s as people decided to continue out of the intersection and up the street toward Capitol Hill. Bunches of tire puncturing nails were thrown steadily behind the group to push back the cops.

As the march reached the Hill, the group had grown to about 30 people in black. About 25 flags were seen waving in the air. Around 1000 fliers (http://pugetsoundanarchists.org/node/202 & http://pugetsoundanarchists.org/node/220) were thrown into the air throughout the hour. Along the way numerous newspaper boxes, trashcans, etc. were thrown into the street. Flares were lit, some were thrown back at the police cars tailing the crowd but went out before doing any damage. Anti-police slogans were sprayed on walls and buildings as the march progressed, like “cops = pigs = murderers”, “all cops are bastards”, “fuck pigs”, “fuck cops (A)”. At least one luxury car was damaged while others were attempted.

Upon reaching Broadway & John, paint bombs were thrown at an American Apparel, Subway, US Bank, Chase Bank, and a now defunct Bank of America. Several windows were banged on with sticks and other objects but failed to break. Shortly after, the group decided to disperse splitting off in different directions. Three people were arrested and released several hours later. Their charges are, as of now, rioting, obstruction, and pedestrian interference (but have been stayed-to be charged potentially at a later date-or not at all).

This action was prompted as a continuance to the anti-police climate that has intensified over the last two weeks. Our intention as anarchists, is purely conflictual in nature, in so, we intended to create the space for agitation and attack. There was no public call outs made, in order to use the element of surprise on our enemy, the police. Seemingly this worked successfully, but also, it should be noted that it wasn't just the surprise but also our presence of no compromise in the streets that kept the cops at bay. What we lacked in numbers we made up for in our ability to be flexible and act quickly.

Our dreams are in the streets!
Against the police and the prison world they maintain!

Im all for rallies like this, but why fuck up other people's shit? If you have a problem with cops, fine...go fuck with cops. But the police have absolutely nothing to do with a random car on the street.

Anarchists attack Seattle police during riot

SEATTLE - A roving gang of rioters smashed property and attacked Seattle police with fireworks, flares and fire extinguishers Saturday night near the site where an officer shot a woodcarver to death last August.

The incident began at about 9 p.m. as an officer drove through the intersection at Boren Avenue and Howell Street and came upon a group of what appeared to be anarchists gathering there.

As the officer passed through, the group discharged a fire extinguisher at his vehicle.

Other officers responded and found a group of 25 to 30 gathered in the intersection, setting up fencing and putting up caution tape. They painted "F--- The Pigs" on the street and on a nearby building.

The rioters also placed makeshift tire-flattening spikes in the intersection, then began walking east on Howell toward the East Precinct.

As they walked away, the group left behind cans of paint, paint rollers, flags and makeshift paint "bombs" fashioned from light bulbs.

By 9:20 p.m., the same group of about 30 anarchists gathered at E. Pine Street and Boylston Avenue, blocking vehicle and pedestrian traffic as they walked up the street.

As the gathering became more rowdy, rioters displayed signs encouraging violence against police.

One anarchist tossed a large firework at a patrol car, which bounced off and detonated. The explosion could have injured them or other persons nearby, police said.

Officers continued to follow the group to Broadway Avenue and then northbound.

Rioters began pushing trashcans and paper boxes into the street as others lit flares and threw them at monitoring patrol cars.

Fire extinguishers were sprayed into the street traffic as rioters attempted to smash windows at a bank in the 300 block of Broadway Avenue East.

Parked cars were attacked and at least one visibly damaged. The mayhem created significant traffic delays and congestion, as well as threatening traffic and pedestrian safety.

Most of the rioters were dressed in black, and many wore bandanas or masks to conceal identity.

The rioters began to disperse at East Republican Street, many running to the east.

Officers captured three suspects near the 500 block of Federal Avenue East. The suspects were booked into King County jail for investigation of rioting, pedestrian interference, and obstructing.

Several businesses were damaged during the riot, including a bank, a local newspaper company, a local print publication and Sound Transit.

The local anarchists have become more active since woodcarver John T. Williams was gunned down by former Seattle police officer Ian Birk last August near the intersection of Boren Avenue and Howell Street.

Birk said he shot Williams after he refused to obey his commands to put down a knife. But dash cam footage of the incident showed Birk gave Williams just seven seconds to react before opening fire.

During an inquest into Williams' death, Birk claimed Williams lunged at him with the knife. But a photo taken at the scene showed Williams' carving knife was in the closed position.

The Firearms Review Board found the fatal shooting was not justified.

East Precinct Prepared for and Expecting Violence from Highly Organized Anarchists
http://pugetsoundanarchists.org/node/267
Submitted by indrid on Thu, 03/03/2011 - 6:46pm
from Capitol Hill Seattle

After three weeks of vandalism, violence and protest in the city and on Capitol Hill, the Seattle Police Department is ready if a group they say is highly organized and seemingly emboldened returns to the streets this weekend.
"It concerns us that certain people are trying to exercise their first amendment rights and are being marginalized by a well organized group of a few people that are looking at this as an opportunity to commit wildness and mayhem," SPD spokesperson Sean Whitcomb told CHS.

Whitcomb could not elaborate on specific measures being taken in East Precinct and downtown to prepare for further violence but he said SPD is ready for and expecting a repeat of recent activity. "It's fair to say, we're very well aware of the problem," Whitcomb said. "We will relentlessly pursue anybody who breaks the law."

Last Saturday night, a group of around 30 self-proclaimed anarchists marched on Broadway, attempting to break windows, throw flares at SPD cruisers and vandalize walls and windows in a 10-minute melee. Three people were arrested and booked for rioting after the late-night disturbance.

The City Attorney is currently weighing whether the arrested trio should face charges after their arrests for obstruction and rioting.

Of more interest to SPD, Whitcomb said, is the man who has been witnessed throwing objects at police multiple times during the incidents. Known for his distinctive yellow scarf, SPD says the man has eluded capture after having been seen throwing hard objects at police and then seeking refuge in the marching crowd.

Last Saturday's Broadway event was yet another weekend visit to the Hill by the core of black-clad, bandanna-masked men and women looking to make a point about police violence in the wake of the Ian Birk shooting of JT Williams. This most recent flare-up of anti-cop activity began shape in mid-February when a marcher busted out an SPD cruiser window directly in front of the East Precinct headquarters at 12th and Pine.

"We understand that there is a lot of anger and some amount of distrust," SPD's Whitcomb said.

"The Williams case is done. We're not gonna let some anarchists destroy the city that we're sworn to protect."

There are currently no permitted marches related to police violence planned for the city this weekend and none of the area's anarchist web sites is promoting an event.
