I saw this posted on another board... thought it was interesting...

This is an excerpt taken from a speech presented at the “Exploring Islamophobia” Conference jointly organised by FAIR (Forum Against Islamophobia and Racism), City Circle, and Ar-Rum at The University of Westminster School of Law, London, on 29 September 2001. The speaker was Jeremy Henzell-Thomas.

"And behind this is also the entrenched view that it is religion which must take the blame for so much violence in the world. In other words, the “doctrine” which feeds the worst kind of terrorism is necessarily religious doctrine. This unquestioned association between religion and war has been wheeled out time and time again in the media with almost no attempt to question it. Having heard this for the umpteenth time last week, I looked into it, and discovered some interesting facts. About 250 million people have been killed in the ten worst wars, massacres and atrocities in the history of the world. Of these, only 2% were killed in religiously motivated conflicts, in this case the Thirty Years War in Europe, which figures as number 10 in the list, and even then this 2% is based on what many scholars believe to be a grossly exaggerated death toll. The vast majority of deaths were the result of secular wars and exterminations, largely based on atheistic doctrines and ideologies. It is truly extraordinary how facts can be ignored in the need to confirm and strengthen cherished illusions."

100% complete bullshit. How does atheism (a lack of a belief) inspire men to kill and exterminate? Please n9ne, explain to us all.

Maybe if I "lack the belief" that your life is worth not exterminating. And it did not say anything about the killings being inspired by atheism. It said that they killed, and that it was based largely on atheistic doctrines and idealogies. This could simply mean that in most of those cases the killing was not religiously motivated, therefore, the lack of belief was involved.

"So, what the hells is an atheistic doctrine? Is that even possible???"

Any doctrine that is contrary to the concept of God, ie: the philosophy of Karl Marx.

Ok, first off, the author (and you) are confusing atheistic doctrines (an oxymoron) and political doctrines, by which I presume you mean communism (Karl Marx). Also, just because violence isn’t religiously motivated does not mean it’s motivated by “atheistic doctrines and ideologies.”

You might as well argue that meteorology is an atheistic doctrine because it does not rely on miracles.

2nd, I assume WWII is on this list, which Hitler was Catholic and throughout and even before his jump into German politics, declared he was doing the will of god. Nothing to do with atheism.

3rd, the author is either flat out lying or completely insane. Religion is responsible for most wars and violence and if you’d like, I will explain in great detail.

Last, if at all possible, show us this list. I am very curious on how anyone can believe “The vast majority of deaths were the result of secular wars and exterminations, largely based on atheistic doctrines and ideologies” and not be a complete mental nutcase.

^^ DO you honestly believe this shit you are spewing? That Religion is evil and responsible for the most deaths....even when you have people who (presumably) have PhD's, saying otherwise? You with your endless websites and obscure OOP books know the real truth?
I'm trying to have a civilized conversation with n9ne. If you’re not going to bring any valid points or arguments to this thread, then please stop posting pointless replies.

If you would like to PM or email me, feel free to do so. Hopefully we can arrange a time and a place to meet so you can say some of these things to my face instead of jumping from thread to thread throwing out insults and avioding the topics.

2-0,
I know that Hitler was raised in a Catholic home but to my knowledge, he didn't remain a Catholic.
The cat was actually half Jewish himself *shrugs*

Anyways, its obvious that the cat quoted here is speaking of the Atheist background of Communist governments through out history.
But I don't think its fair to associate Communism with atheism, nor religion with Capitalism.
We have a democratic government which is slowly transforming to an Atheist government so religion and politics don't mix. Unless its election time....

Anyways, the point I'm tryin to make is that a communist government doesn't necessarily have to enforce atheism. I know the old Soviet Union did and China does it as we speak, but that's on them.
Cuba is basically a Catholic country.
Here's the irony of this shit, our government keeps pumpin the American people with bullshit to the point that every American Christian has not realized that Jesus was a communist.
Maybe the first communist ever....
Study his philosophy on how to live life for others, that is pure communism....

It all makes sense when you think about it, Capitalism vilifies communism because under communism; there can't be any rich and wealthy people.
LOL @ these Christians man, they totally missed it when Jesus said that money is the root of all evils.....
