You think he'll actually sit out the whole season?

Will Reggie run a reverse?

No. 2 overall pick and Heisman Trophy-winning running back Reggie Bush not only appears headed for a holdout with the New Orleans Saints, a league source said Bush is toying with the idea of sitting out the entire season and going back in the draft in 2007 if he doesn't get his price.

"No player has ever had the kind of leverage that Reggie Bush has right now," the source said. "The Saints made it clear what they were willing to do before and now we'll see if they're going to get there."

It seems unlikely the Saints will do that in time for Bush to report to training camp with the team on Thursday in Jackson, Miss. Two sources said that talks between the Saints and agent Joel Segal have been nearly non-existent.

On Wednesday, Mike Ornstein, who is Bush's marketing agent, told the Clarion-Ledger of Jackson, Miss., that he didn't think Bush would be signed in time for camp. Ornstein is not allowed to negotiate contracts, but he is acutely aware of all of Bush's business matters.

One of the sources took that a step further, saying Segal was considering not having Bush sign at all. Segal declined to comment when contacted Friday and messages left with multiple members of the New Orleans organization weren't returned.

While it appears unlikely on face value that Bush would sit out, he appears well-positioned to do so if he really wants.

Bush supposedly has more than $5 million in the bank from multiple endorsement deals Ornstein has negotiated since Bush left the University of Southern California. That money is guaranteed regardless of whether Bush plays this season.

Next, Bush could probably sit out 2006 and still be a high pick next year.

Furthermore, Bush probably has the public sentiment running in his favor. Even though holdout players are generally unpopular, Bush has caused tremendous excitement in New Orleans.

In May, shortly after Bush was drafted, the Saints had already set a franchise record for season-ticket sales, having topped 55,000 at that time. That's extraordinary, especially considering the condition of the hurricane-ravaged city.

Moreover, team owner Tom Benson is immensely unpopular in New Orleans. Ranging from his hard-line negotiations with the city and state to constant threats that he will move the team, Benson is often treated with open scorn by Saints fans.

Bush has also worked hard to endear himself to fans in the city after it came out that he didn't want to play in New Orleans. Bush has made multiple donations to hurricane relief.

LOL..... It's just what the Saints get for drafting a running back that they didn't need. They signed Deuce to an extension for $50 Million, signed Michael Bennett to backup Deuce, and they already had Aaron Stecker who stepped in for Deuce while he was injured. So where was the need for Bush? Now he's threatening to hold out if he doesn't get the money he wants? They're going to have a lot of money tied up in their QB and running backs alone. Drew Brees got $10 million this season, they owe Deuce for his $50 million dollar contract, and now they gotta give out more guarantee's for Bush? It's just what they get! Glad I switched to the Raiders!

It's just lame...he wasn't the first pick. So why should he get paid like he was?

I know his ego is bruised...but he just needs to accept the fact that he didn't go no. 1.

I hate when players, especially rookies, act like little bitches that think they've done shit.

Dude just doesn't want to play in NO, it's as simple as that.

Yeah he's letting his ego get in the way. Why should he get number 1 money if he wasn't drafted number 1? And I agree with all of you. He hasn't proved nathan in the NFL. I don't even think he's an everydown back. Can he take the pounding and run between the tackles all game? It's just what the Saints get for drafting a player that they really didn't need.

If he sits out the entire season I'll never be a fan of his. That's selfish. Especially in the city he is in. He gets paid to play football, so no matter where you're drafted, you take the money and shut the fuck up. If he's as good as he says he is, he can get Peyton Manning type money when his contract is up. Or he could sign a 3 year contract and put in his time in NO before forcing a trade.

That's just selfish. If I have 5 million in the bank and didn't play a single game yet, I'd tell the coaches to get my pads ready cuz I sure as hell owe them some fucking football.

I agree... he's going to get paid anyway because he was the secound pick of the draft. They're going to throw guarenteed money at him anyway with a fat signing bonus... and he's already got 5 Mill in the bank? Hopefully he isn't trying to get a bigger contract than Deuce because Deuce deserved his and he's already put in work. But I don't think that's the case. But Bush is being selfish...

I remember him saying he wanted to get into camp as soon as possible and do anything to avoid a hold out...but I guess it ain't happening.
Yeah he did say that....now that camp is coming he's changing and probably demanding loot.... Damn the Saints are dumb... paying a QB 10 million dollars and he's coming off of major shoulder surgery. Plus he's never won a playoff game before... and now Bush hasn't proved what he can do at the NFL level and they're going to have to dish out loot to get this cat in pads. LOL

That seems to be the common theme in America these days haha.

But anybody who drafted Bush in the 1st/2nd round is a fuckin idiot cuz they're not gonna use him every down anyways. Plus he has to go from a 12 to a 16+ game season (plus pre-season). I'd rather take a player who's gonna be the only one carrying the ball instead of taking Bush who's gonna have to split carries with Deuce and probably Bennett. Anybody who took him in the 1st or 2nd round deserves to lose regardless of whether or not he plays.

I totally agree. He's not an everydown back but he sure is going to be paid like one. And he better not get injured.... But I agree with your whole statement. Now the Saints are looking to trade Bennett and probably won't get any offers.

yup i've said it before and i'll say it again... reggie bush is a fucking douche. just the mere fact that he thought he would be able to challenge the running back "jersey number rule" , when he hadnt even been through training camp, let alone an actual fucking game, made me dislike him.

Mario Williams and Vince Young > reggie bush

He'll get paid like one cause he does other things...he can return punts and kickoffs too.

Every year someone threatens to hold out. And it shouldn't be that hard.

The NFL has the "slotting" system. And the general rule is that you get paid about 10% more than what the guy got last year at the same pick. So in theory, he should get paid 10% more than whover was the no. 2 last year.

If he has $5 million already...then this ALL EGO.

The funny thing is...if he holds out and enters the draft next year...he has the possibility of getting picked by the Saints again next year. That would be fucking funny.

That won't happen...but this guy isn't going to make anything close to what he can make right now...so he might as well sign.
