NEW YORK – The Boston Red Sox have agreed to send left-hander Kason Gabbard and a minor-league outfielder to the Texas Rangers in exchange for right-hander Eric Gagne, according to sources.
Meantime, the Red Sox and Gagne continue to talk about Gagne's role and, if Gagne is going to spend most of his time in Boston as a setup man. Gagne was due about $4 million in incentives based on games finished. That would be altered, based on appearances.
Jonathan Papelbon is expected to continue as the closer, though Gagne will fill in occasionally.
