I recommend a great AKG Mic. Their perfect for vocals. They can be expensive tho, about 400 to 600 for a good mic. And software im not too sure. I think any software might due, as long as you know what your doing and what you want.

a Shure Mic, Digi 003 or a M-Box, if iwere you i would use Protools 8 for everything. Its more compatible with everybody else, especially if you working with people who are out of state.

If you have some bad ass skills, you NEED a compressor tho, to make sure the same shit you record goes in the same quality to the computer, as when your saying it. If you dont have one, your quality goes down and wont sound exactly the same as when you say it.

You don't even wanna know my set up lol I need to get a digital recorder. I'm gonna look at getting a Boss BR1180 or something along those lines. I recorded on one before with a Blue mic at a homies house and it sounds really good.

I currently use a AT2020 USB mic into my laptop with Audacity free recording software. The vocals sound okay and I get away with it but you can tell a big difference.

Recorded in my house on a laptop

Recorded on a digital recorder with a condensor mic

Invest a lot of money on a Mic. That's the most important thing right there. Afterall , you are recording your vocals. Akg's are very good mics. So look into those. I use a bluebird Mic from Blue. But its meant for booths because it is very sensitive and picks up a lot of sound. If your going all computer, make sure you use a good recording program. Protools, sonar, cubase, etc.... Also invest in a good compressor. I use focusrite. Guitar center sells a really good presonus for about $300. And last but not least invest in a mixing and recording book. Trust, this shit ain't easy. Just because you have The equipment, it doesn't mean your an engineer. I been doing this for 8 years and I'm still learning things here n there. But ill give you quality music.
