Recording singing vocals?

OK, im gonna be recording someone doing R&B soon....
all ive ever done is recorded spits,
or at the most singing for the hook or samethin....
are there any tips on differences and/or mistakes yall made i should watch for?

Nope, it is the same thing actually. Get a good signal to noise ratio and levels going through, compress while tracking or compress afterwards, but if the person has a really strong dynamic range you should probably record with compression to tame possible peaks and have the person back away from the mic at strong/loud parts.

For the hook parts or over dubs you can switch the axis of the mic or change the position of the mic to get a different sound, but there is nothing special you need to do.

ID SAY HAVE THE ARTIST RECORD THE MATERIAL IN DIFFRENT OCTAVES OF THE VOICE. HITS DIFFRENT FREQUENCIES AND CAN SOUND NICE IF MIXED RIGHT.
