It's easy, either have a 1/8' male to male cable outputing from the headphones jack into the microphone jack, that'll work.

Or, you could just go to control panel--->sounds and audio devices---->click on advanced in the device volume square, this will open up the volume control window---->options---->properties, select the recording circle, make sure line-in is check marked (there might be variations to the exact name). Press Ok. Now you'll be back at the volume control screen, and you'll be given the recording options, select line in.

Now your set to record what ever your soundcard outputs. Go to a recording program, cool edit pro maybe, and press record, and then press play on whatever you want to record.

Hopefully this helped.

I use to do this with my Creative Audigy 4 on my older system, but I'm not able to do this with my M-Audio MobilePre on my laptop. Is this not possible with this interface or does anyone know a way to make this work? When I select the Recording in the Volume Control Properties, all I get in a Capture option, no line-in or anything similar; and all I get from that is "Mute All", not the "Select" option that I would get with my Audigy.

It should be possible..., the only other way that i'd think would work is if mobile pre had it's own volume control interface. I think most interfaces use a gui of some sort. If it does, check the recording options from there, if not, I have no idea except to record it physically, speaker ouput to a recording input jack.

if i got you right you wane record the sound that play on you computer internaly?

if so there should be on almost all soundcards that you get some kinda gui controll for it. so there you can set it, let say on normal internal soundcard on computers its realteak.. then you go to the volumecontrolls and choose the recording option instead of playback, and there you got diffrent options and you choose a option "what u hear" or "stereo mix"..
now i dont know what card you got but on my juli@ i got "cables" so i can ajust what i want to record.
so you should have some kinda controll setting that let you choose what source you wanne record.. then use software like soundforge to record it

download a free program called audacity

set the input as "wave out mix" in the drop down bar right in the top middle of the program , make sure to adjust the volume so its not too low or loud and hit record.
