I do my Shit at home, So I usually Take my time with it. But my Homie would come in with a beat, And He already had tha Raps down, and Knew what he wanted to put for Backups, He'd do like an easy 2 songs, one time he did three in a good 3 to 4 hour session. But, almost everyone is Different. Myself, I probably take Like 2 to three hours doin' all My Spits, with backups and another hour Mixing/Masstering, but then I check my mixes on different sources, like tha Boombox, or in tha Car, and Go back And adjust levels/panning/effects.

If your organized your vocals should take only 1 hour to record.

The mixing & creating process is what takes the most time.

Couldn't have said it better myself!!!!!

Nothing pisses me off more than having to do 50 fuckin' takes because the dumb-ass I'm recording hasn't practiced his shit. The record for most takes in my studio is 63.......Drama from F.T.S. is the proud holder of that title. That was for 1 track of one verse btw. That means he fucked up or I was unhappy with the performance 63 times........WOWZERS!

The other thing that pisses me off is cats who want to double their tracks up......but can't spit it the same way twice......so it ends up soundin' like a fuckin' train wreck. I be wantin' to snap on fools in the studio sometimes..........I tell ya......anger management worked for me.

It also Depends on How High I am too! LOL!
I think tha Maximum takes I've ever done was like 20 or sumptin', that one was without practice.

I completely agree. I can't stress enough the important of taking your time to mix a song. Anyone who says they can mix stuff fast and have it sound good is either an idiot or has a real low standard for what they consider "quality". Period. Staxxx, I'm real glad you threw "creating" in there too because mixes can be just as creative as the music if not more so. Anyway, the mixing process by far deserves the biggest time committment.

^^^^^^^^ damn right. to all you "newbies" that delay is something i have told many of you to use before. its called "FATTENING". also if you want a longer delay time set it as a multiple to your tempo or set the time according to your notes. if you dont know about delay timing find a delay chart on the net.

just because the vox are tracked your not finished. you need at LEAST 4 different mixes of the song. a-b test in the CHEAPEST speakers you can. take it to wal mart and play it in the home audio and car audio sections. play it in your car in your friends car whatever.

low level mixing is a plus and make sure each song gets at LEAST 3-4 hours of MIXING time.

IM OUT.

lol there is no excuse for 63 takes AT ALL, that means 1 thing....retire. I feel you all on everything me being an m-c i know my part is easy to just go in and spit, occasionally it might take 5 takes to get it the way we want it but if you have your shit in order there's no reason you should be in there that long. We usually record the vocals and get that outta the way then all the other creative nuances and add ons are done at a later time when we can truly focus on what we want to add.

If your using pro tools, record in Loop Mode and then you cann Comp. All the takes from different Playlists, so it perfest,The Crossfade the Audio regions Together. So you would just go in and Bam, Rap it Several Times ocer in Loop Record. Shit's easy.
