I want to buy a record player, primarily for listening to records, but I also make beats and use a lot of samples so I was wondering if anyone knew what the steps were to hook up a record player to your computer?

Do I need a preamp?

Is there a certain type of phonograph that works the best?

I don't know shit about record players, anyone who could help I would appreciate it.

there are USB record players.....I seen one at buffalo exchange...google that bitch "usb turntable"

if you're just gonna be listening and recording to make computer beats then that should be coo for you.....just remember that belt drive turntables don't allow you to really pull them back where as direct drives do.....

I picked up a Numark TTUSB, which is kinda similar to that Ion that you posted a link to. I haven't used the USB feature, I'm running it directly into my interface; through my mixer. But it work sounds good (listening and sampling). I don't know where you're located, but I got mine from Music Unlimited; talked them down from $300 to $180.

It's output are RCA cables, and it has a built in preamp and a 1/8" stereo input jack (which I don't see too many people using).

You can check it out here:
