PC vs Mac is like Ford vs Chevy to each is own.

I've worked on both, they both have there strong and weak points.

One note though, I use a PC with Pro Tools ( Digi001 ) which is a Mac based program. My PC is custom built and has only crashed on me once in almost a year. People run into problems with PC's when they get a Dell, or gateway, or Compaq and then try to run audio programs on those machines. Motherboards, what chip set its using, determine alot people need to learn about those things before they get in over there heads. I did and it made the difference between no problems and a nightmare and I've heard and read about a million of those stories.

Bottem line learn everything you can about everything that is running in your studio, so if there is a problem you can solve it.

I don't know why people refuse to just go ahead and learn how stuff works. Research what kind of setups work best and which are crap.

I have used pretty much every pro-audio package for both platforms and I will tell you right now that a *PROPERLY DESIGNED & BUILT* PC will shit all over a mac any day. One of the computers I use for harddisk-based recording is a custom built PC running Windows XP, which has been more solid & stable than damn near any other system I've used. I'ld rather work on that than the mac's without a doubt.

Just like you said, you can't buy a fuckin Dell or Compaq and expect that it's going to cut it as the center-piece of your recording environment.

Yup...but I just don't know what I would recommend. I suppose if I only had one older board to work with, I would want a Kurzweil K2000 or a Roland JD-800. Those arn't analog though. I dunno man, let me think about it some more and get back to you.

Go for a;
- Roland JD 800 (w/ midi)
- Korg Polysix (w/o midi)
- Yamaha DX 7 (w/ midi)

Personnally i would go for a Korg Z1. Not an old keyboard, but a real phatt synthesizer with many good opportunities to filter them sounds. A lot of good and different sounds.

The Nordlead synths are also real phatt!

I use a Novation Super Bass Station, and a Waldorf Pulse on a regular basis, and these are two hella thick true analog synth's. There both rack mounts though, but with a good controller board, your good to go. I would check out novation and waldorf websites, i don't have a link now but i'll post one!

Yep that Korg Z1 is tight as fuck! The basses are real juicy, and a lot of good digital piano's and strings as well, and the lead sounds are just off the hook. It's phatt, and not that hard to get into!
