Investigators are seeking the public's help to identify a driver who rammed a young woman's vehicle from behind with a stolen vehicle in Morgan Hill, then beat her up and drove off with her purse after they pulled over to exchange insurance information.

Police said Monday they have not been able to identify the man, who was driving a car that had been reported stolen in San Jose on Wednesday. Later that night, at 10:30 p.m., he rear-ended a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old woman at the stop light on Watsonville Road at Monterey Road, police said.

Both drivers pulled over and talked for several minutes, then the man suddenly punched the woman's face repeatedly until she hit the ground, police said. He then reached into the woman's vehicle, nabbed her purse, got back in the stolen vehicle and drove away.

Police found the stolen vehicle abandoned in San Jose on Saturday but are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned Hispanic male in his early 20s, with medium-length black hair, light facial hair around the mouth like a goatee, and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jean shorts. Anyone with information can call police at 408-779-2101.

Though authorities think this was an isolated incident, they advise motorists to pull into well-lit areas with other people nearby after getting into an accident.
