Reccommendations: external memory to back up music?

Just go to Fry's and get an External HardDrive. Fuck looking for brands, just get one for a good price. Holding memory on one isn't any better than holding it on the other.

If you just want to back up files, grab a cheap ass dvd writer, you can get an 8x for around $50 now. With that you can get 4.7 gb per data dvd disc. You can also make data discs with regular cd-r's and if your car stereo plays mp3 cd's it's hella cool playin 5 albums off one cd. If you want to take your music with you on a storage device and patch it into your car stereo or home stereo, get an Ipod or something from Dell.

the reason i got all the music on the computer is my ipod. if my computer crashes then i loose all the music cuz u cannot get the music off an ipod.
fucc cd burning i got enought cds. thats real. and i already got a cd burner.

mark7 tell me what brand u got and how happy u r.

Seagate has a 5gb pocket sized external for $100 bucks, seen it on G4. not sure if it's out yet. I know best buy was having a shitload of seagate drives on sale a few weeks back. I picked up an internal 250 gb for $130 just for my media collection.

^maxtor is all they sell at office depot, good to know.

iomega and seagate seem to be the front runner. 5gb is not gonna do it i already have 14 gb in music. i guess i need at least 80-100 for music and other back up items

i will back up the computer on the external, back up the external on the laptop, back up the lap top on a supercomputer, back up the super on cds and the cds onto floppy disks, then i will write everthing down and committ it to memory. then i will tatoo it on my back and have people do rubbings.
or i will not worry that much about it.

i need to get a new hard drive also im usin 40 GB on music alone i deleted a lot of songs off cause there saved to my mp3 so i can put em back on my comp whenever i want & i only have 20GB left im gettin a 250GB hard drive
