Can this be done? Can things like pitch , reverb, chorus be added and monitored in realtime and recorded. I want to adjust the pitch, etc... of a vocalist in real time and record it that way. Maybe an affordable rack unit can accomplish this?...maybe even a plugin...but I already know how costly that will be processor wise.

Thanks in advance.

yes they can melodyne or anteres auto tune are both widly used pitch correction softwares. Where else do you think all these RnB singers get their cough cough lol talent

in protools and most other DAWs i'm assuming, the FX are post fader so you will have to set up and AUX and bus your track with and effects to another track. You can even automate your settings in realtime adjusting decay times, etc. if you have protools apple 4 will open an automation window i think in windows its ctrl 4. You can also use your rack gear as well but you have to set it up in yout I/O set up hersey might know how to do it. Know that the more plugins you use the more latency you'll get and you'll have to compensate for it

I hope i read your question and answered it right

Actually it would probably be easier to do it with a plugin because the latency will be less (depending on what you're using to record.) Jayda's directions are on point, and thats how you do it (track-->aux-->track). But my question is WHY do you want to record and alter those things in real time?

I have some stuff in mind for something specifically with a low pitched, screwed type voice in mind. Instead of wondering how it will turn out...I want to monitor in real time during the creative process. Got some additional processing in mind to throw in. Want to record it live so I have that "swang" and natural feel to the vocal...just experimenting...that's all. Also I think it would benifit some artist who perform live. Like DJ Quik for example. He obviously has his vocals up an octave or two. Compared to his stage shows where his voice is noticibly(sp?) lower. You would think something like that would be a huge product.

The reason I'm suggesting to record it dry and make it wet later is so you don't ruin a good take. If you can capture the feel right there, and all your settings are on point go ahead and go for it, but on the real, if it were myself I would record dry and print the fx later.

As for Quick I don't think he has the pitch of his vox altered. He has a high pitched voice (listen to him in interviews or listen to his old albums.) I've watched concerts of his where he was in his same tone.

You ever hear Doonie talk? Low voice. You hear him rap? High pitched. Shit SEAL doesn't sound like a european cat when he sings, but when you hear him talk he sounds like he needs tea and crumpets. Now maybe quick is raising his own pitch when he gets in the booth, but I seriously doubt he is using outboard gear or plugins to do it, but post that shit up.
