Rap is about entertainment first just like any other musical genre. Any fan who thinks otherwise is misguided. Trey Songz got a song about inventing sex should we believe he did just cuz he sing about it? lol its entertainment folks. And the rappers who do live what they rap about usually don't have very long careers.

townbizz pretty much sum'd it up....2pac "lived" it so much he's no longer with us, seagram lived it so much he's no longer with us, rappin ron, the list goes on and on....theres nothing bad about rappers who just rap about it, its a form of entertainment and a job they decided to take on to better themselves, the longer u...as a fan of music i wanna hear hear good music, ur credentials mean nuthin to me because i dont know u, i prob wont ever meet u, never cross paths so why would i worry if about what rappin about is true or not?

And most of the time cats out here is too scared to come fuck with us because they dont want to associate themselves wit real gangstas.

And the point of this thread is.......? Are we supposed to get the real on rappers who people think are puttin' in work?
The point of this thread is just like any other topic in this site..... It's a conversation wit the siccness members where people wanna know what other peoples opinions are since that's what topics are usually based on on here........ Opinions!!!!! Me personally I can only speak on people I know like Killa Tay, C-BO, The Mobfigaz, my cousin Kazi from Fatal Connection, Ampichino, Rich the Factor and a chosen few more that's wit the "Street Shit"...... Now, I know a few rappers who rap about ballen and they really ballen n liven it!!! Some of these rappers who y'all think are ballen ain't got shit!!! I don't under estimate nobody tho!!! Anyways, good answers!!!

Yeah but most of these opinions are just pure speculation with dudes just vouching for their favorite rappers and it kinda goes no where. We all know every rapper stretches the truth here and there and doesn't follow through with what they speak on at some point. Some just stretch the truth into a point of absurdity. At the end of the day it's just entertainment. Maybe with the state of rap music being so diluted I just don't bother with who's the realest of the real anymore. That's just me.

If this question was asked in the East Co. Co. board your homies would have been mentioned. Their fans typically post there. It's not a matter of people not giving respect, but which boards are active for different sub genres of rap.

That's pretty much on point. I think the whole, "Keeping it real" with rappers died out when Hip Hop lost both 2Pac & Biggie. The loss of the two icons was a huge blow to Hip Hop & the music industry. The music just died for awhile after that and a whole lot of rappers were trying to find themselves. Yes, good albums dropped around that time, but it reset the game again. Many albums fell on deaf ears, or weren't really appreciated at that time.

Then it went into ridin' mode for a lot of rappers, but that also died out quick. A lot of rappers as well as fans just wanted entertainment from that point.

I personally don't see the point in trying to prove something that nobody really gives a shit about. Other than a handful of kids who still want to glorify the street shit, but the only idiot that would glorify something like that is the idiot that's never lived it.

That's almost as bad as a rapper playing Russian roulette trying to prove to the world he has the balls to be doing that. In the end of it all, there is no need to prove anything else other than making good music.

Flea was keepin it real by murdering a student and non-combatant over nothing? Dude was solid in the streets but come on man, nothing 'real' about that action, no disrespect...

I def agree with you on the previous mentioned cats, especially my dude Big Oso. C-Fresh of IMP and SOS of Triple 6 also come to mind

THIS!

Plus, it makes no sense to make music in an attempt to better your living situation, and at the same time do or say shit that's going to keep you down. When do cats grow up and start talking about SERIOUS shit? There's a difference between portraying/glorifying the lifestyle, and reflecting on it.

Case in point: "Daddy Is a Gangsta" by AP.9. There's a real point to songs like that....a real reflection.
