I was reading a little article that had Spike Lee in it. He was speaking on how "gangsta rap" is doing a lot of harm to Black folks and Black communities, and it got me thinking. Is "gangsta rap", shit, rap in general, still sending a conscious message about the underpriveleged and the down trodden, or is it jus the same street tales, with no REAl message? And on top of that, do rappers, with their notoriety, and fame, have an obligation to be "teachers" and "role-models" still, or is it jus like an average job, where u do what u do to make the money? Because everytime i hear about a rapper whos lyrics are questioned, they say that they are jus speakin for those with no voice, but the whole album doesnt have an ounce of positivity in it. Just my thoughts anyway...

I think if a rapper gets into the limelight, he needs to take responsibility. It's not their fault if somebody goes out and does what they say, cause we can't control people. BUT, I think instead of always talkin the negative shit, we as rappers need to focus on reality, good or bad, and shed the same light on both sides, and make it perfectly clear what we're trying to do. Whether we like it or not, we are role models and teachers...youngsters look up to us, which is the reason todays youth is all fucked off. It's time to change that, and make rap reality, real life, and show these kids the difference between having bad times and being a bad person, cause so many people these days believe it's cool to mock what they hear and see!!
