Some of these cats don't know when to call their "music career" a hobby. I forgot how many thousands of rap single's were released by K.C. artists last year, but the number versus the audience is really fucking disproportionate. Now I wont knock these cats for being on the grind and chasing what they want, but its weird that the ones who obviously have no talent (meaning it's not even debatable) don't know it themselves. I buy K.C. artists CD's at 7th heaven, out of trunks, etc, but there is definitely an easy distinction between the cat that should have just kept his shit on the PC, and the one who deserves some shelf space. Now on this board, we have Realla Rezob, who is average at best yelling "I'm Hot" and JasonM thinking that they are talented and they don't even hear the feedback we give them, because of the rappers that "didn't listen to the haters" and the first song they have worth listening to "proves" they are "hot". I think the difference being that you take an artist, like Kutt for example, that has been studying and perfecting a skill, THAT PREVIOUSLY EXISTED!, he is talented, and you can tell from the mic presence and delivery, along with songs that make sense and are well thought out, and thats how improves and perfects his craft.
Now just like the white middle forties man who sneaks into his basement to play the songs on his guitar, that his garage band used to play, some of these cats need to keep the shit to themselves, I mean DONT EVEN SHARE THE SHIT WITH US, IF YOU KNOW IN YOUR HEART IT IS SUB PAR. And I am sorry, I don't believe in Rap School and guys asking "tell me what you think of this" and then trying to create something someone will like, when its obvious that you need to leave this shit up to the niggas that were born with it in their blood, because they don't have to ask. The problems that naturally talented cats run into is 1. They have a nice delivery, but no content. 2. They have content and delivery, but NO mic presence. Most of the shit on the shelves has NONE OF THE ABOVE. The point I am making is they do have talent, they arent trying to rap because the shit is cool, they are wanting to make a contribution to the game, and be compensated for it.

P.S. Sorry for the rant, if you cannot tell, I went and wasted money on some local stuff from cats that think just wanted to be able to tell a chick "my cd is on sale in stores". I threw all of them away, literally.

This is the story of my life. I don't know how many times I hear rappers saying "this shit's goin' platinum!!!" in the studio while I mix their wack-ass music. It never ceases to amaze me hiow young cats that have done nothing are always the ones who don't need/want my input or opinion. Or...they want their shit to sound like Tech's but then book and hour to record and mix a song and bring me a wack-ass 2-track beat that has been smashed and is mixed all fucked up...

just venting today

rob... i feel you.

"record my rap onto this mp3 and make it sound banging!!"

NO! how about "you bring me a beat with ALL the sounds separated on different tracks in a non lossy format and I'll see what I can do with your hooked on phonics lyrics"

Its amazing how a negative yet true comment can come out to be a positive thread. You said what alot of us feel......if anyone knows about rapper hobbiests its me.....If I had a dollar for every one that has contacted me in the past 6-7 years I would be worth a mint.....
