I think if it is done because the rapper is an artist that has a passion for rock music then yes. But if it's just another rapper trying to do anything to get some attention then no. For every artist that "steps outside" the box and crosses into a different genre there should be an interview set up to ask them what they REALLY know about it. That would bust they ass out if they were being fake and just trying to do anything for 15 minutes of fame.
This is nothing really new, just a mainstream artist bringing it to the forefront. check out a couple groups that's been doing it for a while, even a bay area group in there to keep this in the BART forum:
I remember when C-Lo did this shit a couple years back, it wasn't on some "hey, its the thing to do right now, let me try," you could tell he actually was passionate about that shit.
The fact that Lil' Wayne has no music skills whatsoever and tries to sing makes it awful. That auto-tune is killing everything, it's not a musical instrument! If it was Weezy on the guitar it probably would be more amazing but the man isn't even a musician and shitty lyricist at most.
I thought his lyrics were mediocre at the most on rap but he bombed pretty bad on the rock lyrics!
rap with a rock feel is just fine for a couple songs on an album. If someone is making an entire album of rock, they aren't a rapper, at least not on that album.
