Philadelphia rapper Cassidy is in critical condition, after an accident last night (Oct. 4) in New Jersey injured him and four passengers.

Cassidy, born Barry Reese, suffered the most severe the injuries.

While details are sketchy, the rapper was reportedly leaving New Jersey for a recording studio, when a truck swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed into Cassidy's side of the SUV he was riding in.

"He was the only one that suffered critical injuries," a representative for Cassidy's label Sony/BMG told AllHipHop.com. "[He suffered] a fractured skull and broken bones on the left side of his face."

Four other passengers in the vehicle also suffered injuries, but the severity was not known at press time.

Cassidy is being held at an undisclosed hospital in the New York City area.

The rapper rose to fame with the release of his first solo single 2004's "Hotel," which featured R. Kelly. The single was taken from his debut Split Personality, which landed at No. 2 on Billboard's Top 200 upon its release in March of 2004.

In June of 2005, just as Cassidy was preparing his sophomore album I'm a Hustla, he was arrested and charged with the murder of a 22-year-old man Desmond Hawkins, after a shootout behind his Philadelphia row home in April.

During Cassidy's trial, a key prosecution witness recanted his statements about witnessing the rapper firing a gun and claimed police told him what to say.

In Jan. 2006, Cassidy was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault and possession of an instrument of crime.

Police said they found ammunition in Cassidy's house which matched shell casings recovered from the crime scene.

Cassidy was released from prison in March of 2006, after serving eight months behind bars. The rapper was working on his third album for Swizz Beatz' Full Surface label, which is distributed by J Records.

Shortly after his release, the rapper told AllHipHop.com that he had learned from his experiences over the past year and was on a much different course.

"I’m more patient, humble," Cassidy told AllHipHop.com in March 2006. "I’ve got a better relationship with God and my family. I know my real friends. I just learned so much from it. I was able to clear my mind up – not drink and smoke and party and not deal with the business every day. I was able to think – get my priorities together. I came to the conclusion of where I wanna go and the type of artist I wanna be."

Cassidy was recently featured on the Swizz Beatz' produced song "One Day," which was produced in conjunction with the International Peace Concert.

Cassidy was to perform the song with Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Chris Brown, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Lyfe Jennings during the International Peace Concert, which airs live from the Coliseum in Rome, Italy on December 9th.

News are not so good.
Today in HHGAME

Philadelphia rapper Cassidy remains in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center, six days after a traffic accident in which he suffered severe head injuries, a publicist for his record label said.

Cassidy, 23, is said to have suffered a fractured skull and several fractured facial bones in the Jersey City accident. Yesterday, broken car parts and shattered glass were still at the spot of Wednesday night's accident.

Theola Borden, a publicist for J Records, said Cassidy was in critical condition but is expected to survive.

"We don't know whether he is in an induced coma or heavily sedated," she said yesterday. "The results of a CAT scan were okay."

Borden said friends and relatives were at the rapper's bedside.

"Other rappers, such as Remy Ma, have called and asked to visit, but I think they're just allowing close family members and friends to visit," Borden said. "He's on the same label as Swizz Beatz, who I'm sure has been over to visit."

LATEST: A passenger in the car rapper CASSIDY was travelling in when it was involved in an accident with a truck has spoken about the horror in the immediate aftermath of the crash.
GRADY SPIVEY, the rapper's A&R representative, reveals how he called emergency services after finding Cassidy's motionless body after the New Jersey smash on Wednesday (04OCT06).
Cassidy - real name BARRY REESE - was one of four people in a sports utility vehicle which was hit by what was at first believed to be a U-Haul truck.
He suffered a fractured skull and many bones in the left side of his face were broken. The star was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he was in a critical condition, but has now stabilised.
Spivey tells AllHipHop.com, ""We were on our way to pick up the producer NEO 'THE MATRIX', listening to Cassidy music - he was freestyling, we were having a good time.
"We were on Manhattan Avenue in Jersey City, and there comes a truck. I'm talking to Cassidy and we hear the driver say, 'Oh s**t, a truck!' "It wasn't a U-Haul truck. It was a commercial truck, the size of a large U-Haul truck. This truck runs the red light, out of nowhere crosses the intersection out of control and crashes into the left side of our SUV vehicle, hitting from the back of the driver on down.
"Cassidy was seated directly behind the driver, so he got the full blunt-force impact. That's why he has a fractured skull and broken bones in his face - he was thrown from his seat.
"I was bleeding all over myself. I jumped out the car and saw him laying there. I picked him up, there was no life, no movement in his body. I put him on the seat and immediately called 911. I was feeling panic, feeling nervous, but I'm a spiritual man and God put calm over my body.
"He started choking on his blood and vomit and I turned him on his side so he wouldn't choke. Fortunately enough, he is living. God allowed all four of us to live."

He is sedated also heres a more detailed story from the news.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The rapper Cassidy was reportedly in critical condition at a New Jersey hospital following a car crash last week.

The 24-year-old Philadelphia artist, whose real name is Barry Reese, was a passenger in a sport utility vehicle that collided with another vehicle in Jersey City on Oct. 5, according to Sgt. Edgar Martinez, a police spokesman.

The Jersey Journal of Jersey City reported in Tuesday's newspapers the rapper was in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman did not immediately return a call seeking information on his condition Tuesday.

"He has multiple fractures of his face," his lawyer, Simon Rosen, said Friday. "He has a nasty scar from his ear to the corner of his mouth. He's on sedation to keep him from moving, and to keep him out of pain.

"It's scary looking, but he's a very strong young man," said Rosen, who did not immediately return numerous calls Tuesday. "He's a fighter. He'll come through this."

Jersey City police issued a summons for making an improper turn to the driver of the vehicle that collided with Cassidy's vehicle, Javier Trujillo Gonzalez, 36, of Carson City, Mich.

All five people involved in the crash were taken to local hospitals, but only Cassidy sustained serious injuries, Rosen said.

The rapper was heading to a recording studio in New York to work on an upcoming album when the crash occurred, his lawyer said.

Cassidy was recently released from prison following his January conviction on charges of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault in what prosecutors called the planned ambush in Philadelphia of a man who had argued with the musician's friends.

Common Pleas Judge Jane Cutler Greenspan said at the end of a two-day non-jury trial that Cassidy was grossly negligent for supplying the guns that killed Desmond Hawkins and wounded two of his companions.
