Can't say I've ever been a fan of Cudi in any form but I noticed how hard the album was getting panned which made me click around on a few random songs from it on Youtube and going off those 5-6 songs I listened to I gotta say it might be the worst album I've heard in the better part of a decade.

Alright I said I'd post up some shit I've been listening to so here we go. Going to break these posts up some because I hate super long posts. Will probably do a post or two tonight then try to do some more my next chunk of days off.

Gonna just start this off with some Calgary bands I've been diggin' a lot the last year or so. I don't know what's going on up there but there have been quite a few great bands coming out of Calgary lately (and Canada in general actually).

At the forefront was a band called Women who were active from 2007 until 2012 when they dissolved after the death of guitarist Chris Reimer. The band also consisted of brothers Pat & Matt Flegel (bass / vocals & guitar) and drummer Michael Wallace. I'd best describe Women as sort of mathy art rock with lots of pop undertones (god I hate trying to describe bands lol) I didn't find out about them until the end of 2013 when they had already broke up after Chris's death but became an instant fan and both of their albums get front to back play from me often. As far as I know everything I upped is their full discography which consisted of two full lengths, two songs on a 7inch single, and a song for a four-way split EP.



Women - Discography

after the break up of Women Pat & Mike started what is probably one of my favorite active bands, Viet Cong, along with a couple other dudes. They play sort of noisy post-punk that still has some of that art rock vibe left over from their time in Women. They've released two projects, a full length self titled cassette they self released in 2013, and a self titled debut full length this year on Jagjaguwar which is easily one of my favorite releases of 2015. Also included is a Bauhaus cover from the rerelease of the self titled cassette that came out in 2014 on Mexican Summer records.



Viet Cong- Discography

I caught them here back in October at Neumos and I can not stress how awesome they are live. It was a really great fucking show and I will more than likely catch them live any time they hit Seattle for the next few years for sure.


I watch/listen to this KEXP performance all the time and you have to love a band that when the DJ asks "got time for one more" says yeah and goes on to play a nearly 15 minute long track lol They closed out the show here in Oct with it as well and it nearly brought the house down, fucking slayed.

Matt is doing solo stuff under the moniker Cindy Lee and has released three projects including two within the last few months, first one came out in 2012 or 2013 I don't remember. It's like fuck I don't even know baroque pop mixed with a little noise sometimes, some oldies worship and a good dash of lolwut with usually (but not all the time) the vocals up pitched that come through sounding part female, part Adventure Time character at times. All three releases are really fucking rad in my opinion, but it should be known by now on here I like some weird shit sometimes.

Okay said I hate super long posts then I go and make one for only three bands that are all interconnected to each other lol Probably will keep the next posts I make shorter and not so descriptive but I'm really fucking stoned right now and yeah, was a good way to kill 30 minutes.

Gonna try to continue with more stuff I've been jammin tomorrow or the next day but King Krule just dropped a soundtrack under his given name to accompany a book and mini documentary that is coming out today.

Checked out some songs by KK...the music itself is nice, but he should not be a vocalist IMHO...he has terrible sense of tune and is not a good singer at all. He seems to be a heckuva writer though. If i didnt know better, and i just closed my eyes hearing him talk...i woulda thought it was a black dude. Never would i guess he is a skinny little ginger kid.
