A long-anticipated battle between two former UFC champions is likely to take place this fall.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the organization that Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (30-8 MMA, 5-2 UFC) has verbally agreed to face Lyoto Machida (16-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC).

Jackson teased the contest on his official Twitter account, and MMAjunkie.com has learned that the bout is targeted for the main event of a yet-to-be-announced Nov. 20 date.

"Almost ready to sign the bout agreement," Jackson stated on his Twitter account. "I would tell ya'll who I'm gonna get down with, but I can't spell his name. Hahaha."

As Jackson alluded to in the post, bout agreements have yet to be finalized.

A location for the Nov. 20 card (which could potentially serve as UFC 123) has yet to be determined, and UFC officials are said to be considering a handful of potential venues.

Jackson looks to bounce back from a May loss to nemesis Rashad Evans at UFC 114. The contest was the culmination of 14 months worth of rivalry and a coaching gig on "The Ultimate Fighter" opposite Evans.

Prior to the loss, Jackson had earned back-to-back victories over Keith Jardine and Wanderlei Silva.

Meanwhile, Machida also looks to bounce back from a loss – the first defeat of his career. "The Dragon" was knocked out in the first round of his May rematch with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and relinquished his belt in the process.

Prior to the defeat, Machida had earned eight-straight UFC wins and both claimed and once defended the UFC's light heavyweight title.

Jackson was said to be interested in a rematch with Forrest Griffin – the man who took the title from "Rampage" in July 2008 – but the original winner of "The Ultimate Fighter" is currently sidelined following shoulder surgery.

The winner of the Jackson-Machida contest will undoubtedly return to top-contender status in a stacked 205-pound division.

I dont think so, Rampage has a good shot at knocking him out imo. Machida isnt scary like Rashad is, hes willing to trade punches and that will be his demise

Machida's movement is going to be a huge problem for Rampage. 'Page has to be able to settle in and sit on his punches for him to be effective, and I don't think Machida is going to allow him to do that. Interested to see how Machida bounces back from a KO loss.

Props to him for taking the tough fight tho.

If you think Machida will exchange punches you are tripping. He will go back to being even more of a counter fighter especially after he tried to be aggressive vs Shogun and got ktfo. If Rampage couldn't find Rashad how the hell will he find Machida? Machida is going to leg kick, jump in and out with that straight left all day. Bad match up for Rampage.

Rampage is going to get frustrated like a Mo'fo in this fight. Machida is elusive for a reason. He can't take a punch & seeing as how RAMPAGE HITS HARD AS SHIT, The Dragon ain't gonna want none.

its not that Rampage couldnt figure out Rashad... dude had a ton of ring rust, and was just not in the best shape.... he made weight and all but... he wasnt the same Rampage we have seen b4.. Rashad also fought a wrestling match with Rampage... caught him one time and mostly worked for takedowns. i think a healthier rampage woulda tore evans a new one with the quickness... that outta shape rampage allllmost finished evans... but with Machida.. he has to be patient.. Machida wont come in to this swingin like he was against shogun (as someone said earlier) were gonna all have to see tho... should be a good fight... i hope at least.

Damn this is going to be a crazy fight. I'm going for Rampage but I think The Dargon is going to pick him apart. But Rampage is one hard shot away from KOing anyone at 205..

A lot of people forget how hard to hit Machida was before he fought Shogun. Machida feeds off dudes like Rampage who constantly chase him around trying to knock him out. The reason Shogun was so effective was because of the thai style kicks none of which Machida's previous opponents knew how to use effectively. When was the last time Rampage threw a kick? Rampage will chase and chase and keep missing because Machida will be on his bike as Joe would say.

I think Rampage will catch Machida with a counter punch after missing a first punch thrown and it will be good night cuz Machida will try to counter and get countered if that even makes sense

It's gonna look like the Forrest fight. But with Rampage getting hit a lot more. And not winning any rounds.

Machida could be gunshy after getting KTFO though, maybe Rampage wins by being the aggressor in a decision
