Fasting isn't hard unless you have a physically demanding job. But then again, the whole point is to remind yourself that many people MUST live like this, without choice, and that you must be grateful for the fact that you have the ability to break your fast with plentiful food. Many 'fast' everyday of the year because they must, and that is called starvation and malnutrition.

Ramadan Kareem.

30 days fasting, reading the Quran.
Nothing by mouth during daylight hours (including water)
No sexual relations during the daylight hours.

DISCIPLINE.
I respect this & the discipline it takes to do so. I know folks who fast for 4 days straight with no food or water. So I know how rough it can be on the body mentally, physically & spiritually. It has been 20 years since I have done so...

look at this wild motherfucker Prahlad Jani.. says he's gone without food or drink for almost 70 years.. started when he was 12.

They put dude in 24 hour observation for 10 days.. no food, no water.. dude claims the sun transmits energy through a hole in his throat producing a small lump of nutrients that he can re-digest and the process was helped to start by doing solar gazing which is staring at the sun in the first hour of dawn or the last hour of dusk.

I'm glad you brought this up. I know of many Hindu and Sufistic saints that have gone without water or food for long periods of like much like this man Prahlad Jani. Eventually I want to train my body to do something of the sort. What a release from this world to have no need for food and water.

I have also heard of saints that have went without sleep for years and years due to their constant deep meditations.

As a Western culture we have much to learn from ancient peoples and traditions.

yoga or qi gong type activity that works with prana/chi body energy is the start for the food/water. And the sleep thing is because the deep meditation states go further than deep sleep in regards to theta type states of consciousness... samadhi states.. in deep salvikalpa and nirvikalpa states you're just gone
