RAIDERS’ STADIUM GETS A NAME CHANGE

The Oakland Raiders’ home stadium officially changed names today.

The stadium formerly known as McAfee Coliseum is going back to its original name, the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, after McAfee declined to renew its naming rights contract. But local officials have made clear that they’re actively seeking another corporate sponsor, and it won’t be Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum for long.

“It’s unfortunate to see McAfee pass on renewing their contract, but this leaves the opportunity open to another business to brand our facility,” said Oakland City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente, the chair of the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority, per the Contra Costa Times.

Network Associates entered into a 10-year, $13.2 million contract for Coliseum naming rights in September of 1998. The name was changed from Network Associates Coliseum to McAfee Coliseum when the company changed its name in 2004.
