Watching it now. Seems cool. Something other than the ordinary we hear about Iran.

Rageh Inside Iran

Rageh Omaar embarks on a unique journey inside what he describes as one of the most misunderstood countries in the world, looking at the country through the eyes of people rarely heard - ordinary Iranians.
It took a year of wrangling to get permission to film inside Iran but the result is an amazing portrayal of an energetic and vibrant country that is completely different to the usual images seen in the media.
A country of contrasts

Rageh soon discovers that Tehran is a complex place and uncovers a city of extremes of wealth and poverty, where some people survive on less than a dollar a day and others shop till they drop in glitzy shopping malls.
Iran is a country that bans women from riding motorcycles but where 60 per cent of the student population is female. It is also a youthful place, with two thirds of Iran's 70 million population under the age of 30.
Local stories

Rageh meets with local people to hear their personal stories and feelings about the current state of affairs in Iran. There are stories of taxi drivers, wrestlers, business women, people working with drug addicts and the country's leading pop star and his manager - the 'Simon Cowell' of Iran.
Rageh Inside Iran transcends images of angry demonstrations and burning flags to reveal a country that isn't without its problems but which is also fascinating, dynamic and hospitable.

Google Video HERE

BTW, what Doberman has done is an example of how to make a video post in the GOM forum. He included information regarding the video and in doing so should create discussion. Other posts with simply a thread title like "cool video" and only a link to youTube as the content will be moved to the "Videos Download & post" sticky thread.

as an iranian american i can say that he did a very good job at delving deeper into some of the underlying issues of iranian society. he explored the many different and often contradictory perspectives of iran, tehran is particular.
when im in iran the people i hang out with are all young and pretty. the guys are pretty boys jus like persians in la and san jose. the girls are all gorgeous, some have had plastic surgery, all wear makeup like any american girl does. they are not particularly into the political scene, they mostly focus their lives on school, shopping, partying, and for some, working. they are in many senses less like middle easterns and more like americans and europeans. they listen to american gangsta rap, they dance to european house music, etc.

one big aspect of the society, especially in tehran, that he failed to discover is the thriving underground party scene among irans youth. since 79, the new islamic government closed down all the clubs and discos. since then the youth of iran has devoloped a house party scene that rivals many of the club scenes ive seen, even in america and europe.

heres a brief picture of what its like
i go into a inconspicuous house or warehouse around some cutty corner in tehran. i walk in and it opens up into a huge building, with laser lights, huge club speaker system, hundreds of dancing teenagers, video projectors, etc. police officers are often payed off (at the party i was at, a couple cops were there partying with us with drugs they had confiscated from other parties they had busted). girls come in with their hijabs and coats, walk into a bathroom, come out in miniskirts, bellys showing, cleavage on display, makeup done and hair down. the music of choice is hip hop, house and trance. there are at least a few djs spinning at each party. the drugs of choice are ecstacy (iran is liquid mdma capital of the world) and cocaine.

my point is that with any and every petty restriction the government attempts to place on the people, the youth finds some way around it, wether its protesting to the point that the government changes or relaxes the restriction, or by jus continuing to break the rules under their radar.

the youth is the majority of the country and their voice is extremely powerful. i believe the change will come when they all stop partying and doing drugs so much and all get together to get their message heard and their mission accomplished.
