well sorta.. the goddamn reader went out or some shit and now my ps3 wont read discs at all. i looked online at forums and youtube offering so many ways to "fix" this but it looks like im guna have to send it to Sony if i want another. my ex-gf bought me it a few years ago, even if i had the warranty it would have been expired by now. i miss the days of N64 haha.. virtually no problems.... has this happened to anyone?

edit: methods i tried to help fix this:
recovery menu (like ps3's safe mode)
manual restart system
restore default settings
restore file system
rebuild database
and finally restore entire ps3

Fuck!

people say that after every big game comes out (grand theft auto, mgs4, etc.).

I've been playin MW2 non-stop for days, it's cool.

You probably need to send it back to sony, or you can look around locally and see if you can find anyone that may be able to fix it for you for cheaper, idk.

its your blu ray disc drive... shit happened to my homeboy... you either need to buy a new blue ray drive for 100 dollars, buy a new ps3, or send it back to sony and see what they say... either way you are ganna spend money on one... i heard this problem is more common on the older ps3's, i havent had a problem since ive bought mine.

i payed 145+ tax to get my blue ray lens replaced by sony. took 14 days total to get the box, send it in,and receive it back. I blamed it on fight night 4 at first cuz i "was playing it til it shit on me'. But the game plays fine since the repair.

if its not reading discs, they wont replace the system, they just repair it. Youll know whats happening to youre system when they send you the return box. Just look at where its going.

fuck sending it back to Sony, get the drive off eBay for less than $80 shipped, spend your other $70 on a sack of weed, & blaze up a blunt while enjoying your perfectly fine, working PS3.

That's what I did.

edit:

here's the guy I got mine from... $70.99, free shipping, and a 45 day warranty, and best thing is he's USA not some Hong Kong piece of shit sellin broken parts like 90% of the other eBay listings you'll see..

http://cgi.ebay.com/PS3-Laser-Assem...ZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games?hash=item3ef88fa95a

check his feedback, everyone who's bought one from him now has a working ps3.

^^^thats what my boy did, not from that particular seller, but he ended up putting an after market drive in and it works fine now.

i would be scared about mine but playing 10 hours a year probably isnt going to wear out the drive anytime soon

thats the crazy thing i barely played it til CODMW2 came out
was your ps3 manufactured before september 2007? those are the ones with the shittiest of shit bluray drives that have tended to burn out a lot more, especially when playing games like COD for whatever reason. I've seen the forum posts from people its happened to.. its never a sports game or Rock Band, shit like that, its always a FPS or RPG.

I had played Madden on mine for months no problem, but then as soon as i switched to playing Littlebigplanet for about two weeks with no other disc games, there goes my bluray drive.

I haven't had a single problem with my PS3 except for lack of good games and trying to hook a bluetooth headset up, which for some reason you have to set up every time you want to use it.

Everything on that system is 20 times more difficult than it needs to be.
