NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- Stand-up comic Greg Giraldo has died 5-days after suffering an apparent prescription drug overdose.
A Comedy Central regular and judge on "Last Comic Standing," Giraldo was found unresponsive during a party in his New Jersey hotel room after performing at the Stress Factory.
The 44-year-old comic, initially in critical condition, was breathing on his own by Sunday.
A source close to Greg tells TMZ, "Greg passed away today at the hospital in New Brunswick as a result of an accidental overdose. His family was by his side."
In addition to his four nights at the club, the recovering alcoholic had been booked to appear Saturday afternoon at the New York Recovery Rally, billed as an event to "celebrate recovery from addiction."
Plans are being made for a public memorial service.
