ORLANDO, Fla. -
The Orange County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting death on East Colonial Drive.
Deputies said 65-year-old Mireya Maria Averado was working in a food truck when she was killed.
Deputies responded to a 911 call about the shooting around 2:35am Sunday. When they arrived at 5021 East Colonial Drive they discovered Averado. She was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
"She had a great heart," said Mike, a neighbor who would only share his first name. "I'm going to miss her. She's a personal friend of mine."
Two suspects were seen running away from the scene. Detectives believe the shooting was probably part of robbery of the food cart.
Several neighbors said there has been a recent gang problem in the area. They point out spray painted signs on the food cart.
"It's pretty blatant," said one neighbor. "It's on the side of the wall there. It's pretty obvious it's gang activity."
Investigators are looking into that possibility. Meanwhile they are asking for the communities help.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call CRIMELINE at (407) 823-TIPS.
