I'm almost set on getting the BX5's or BX8's. I've never had monitors before (headphones...yea...) so i'm not really sure what i'm getting into. Another monitor pair that I looked at was the Yamaha HS-50M, oh and another one Event TR8.
Well, I know I should just go ahead and go to guitar center, and that's not really the kind of response i'm looking for, I'm wondering if any of you have had experiences with any of these, and by experiences i mean, owning them for a prolonged period of time so that you were able appreciate the build quality, ie if they broke down easily, or were durable enough so that you didn't have to return them. Okay, this was a long rant. Sorry. But any responses are truly appreciated, and any recommendations more so.

Also, correct me if i'm wrong, I'll need an audio interface, cables, monitors, and maybe a power conditoiner? And, maybe a nice little microphone. I'm not looking on making hip hop beats per se, well definitely maybe not. I'm getting into composing and orchestration (major), I need monitors that will give me a truthful sound about orchestral elements. Thanks

i have bx5a's and they are crap... rockits seem a little bass heavy for me... i'd try and shop around and get some professional opinions about what would be the best for your $$... dont go to a music store or anything to get opinions... some will help, some wont... they have spiffs on certain items where they get more commission on it so they will try and sell you on whatever.... i'd ask someone like hersey, d-sane or someone along those lines

ROKIT 8's ARE NICE the 5's aren't bad either. i think that line is the standard professional quality - consumer priced monitor. get a pretty nice sound out of those monitors

I also have rp5's, I was blown away when I got them by the clarity and flatness of sound. Very hard to monitor bass on them without the rp10 that is standard for the series, but I got mine off ebay for $150 for the both, so I ain't complaining. Go with KRK for monitors, but I'd go with the 8's if you could afford them, my homie has them and they rock.

just a heads up.
stanton owns krk and just put out their atm 6's recently and they're supposed to be pretty much identical to the krk rp6's.

i had a set of those yammie hs50's on loan when i was gettin one of yorkville's repaired (which I love for the price btw) and they sound pretty good but they dont have a whole lot of lowend.

Mackies look really nice and i'm just talking about appearance wise, but, fuck it, i've been looking for good deals on ebay for a while now, and you know what...fuck it, i decided to just go ahead and get the 3 payment plan at american musical and get the krk rp6s.

Do you guys use stereo pads, insulation foams, or whatever they're called? Are they worth it?

Yes they are worth it, you have to know where to place the foam to get the best advantage in the ROOM you are working in. If you have the money then get some foam and do something with it, regardless, you definitely want your new monitors sitting in isolation pads. Auralex MoPAD isolation pads are a very good first investment.

KRK's are excellent monitors by the way, I see them in every studio I go into so, they are a good investment.

let me correct myself i mean the V Series not the ROKIT series.... i just found out they aren't the same thing. i was thinking the rocket 8's are the same as the V series 8 inch monitors, get the V series.

Okay, one more question..., is it alright to leave the monitors on? I turn them off at night, but let them stay on during the day. Bad? Alright? And also, about their positioning, I have the mopads, and what I did is, I angled them up so that when I sit down they point towards my ears. No one does that, from what i've seen in everyones studio pictures, they're all just pointing straight ahead. So, it doesn't make a big difference?
