Dressing up as the white version of a black person is cool.

A white rick ross

A white kimbo

A white will smith from his fresh prince years

but when you start playing into stereotypes and racial taboos you're looking for trouble

Some white dude showed up to the halloween party last night dressed as Don King...nobody got offended. Just depends on who you're around.

Don King can slide. But when its like "yo, who the fuck are you supposed to be?" than you have to put dudes in check and clown them.

I mean, if you're trying to be Denzel from Training Day, or the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, go ahead. But if you're doing the black face in order to be a "black guy" for Halloween, not in order to add to the character of your costume- then I know a few people that would probably get drunk and end up fighting you if you're at their party.

I got to watch a Vietnamese dude push a white kid dressed up like Lil Wayne into a wall and collapse a huge section of the dry wall. That was funny.

Why is it in bad taste?

Arguing that its in bad taste probably does more to reinforce and perpetuate racial segregation and tension than anything the person is dressed up is doing.

I mean should skinny people not be allowed to dress up as a fat person?

Same goes with sports teams named after Indians. What is so offensive about a teaming championing the positive spirit of a group of people? They didn't name the team after Indians because they were a bunch of pussies. You don't see Irish people up in arms about Notre Dame.

I agree it would be a whole different story if someone dressed up as another race to play up negative stereotypes, but otherwise it shouldn't be a problem. As long as the person is dressing up as the character out of respect or admiration than it should be taken as a compliment.
